Every time somebody mentions Dishonored I die inside because I want it so much but I can't afford it and sadface. :(

I've replayed most of the Assassin's Creed series a few times (with the exception of Brotherhood because I don't actually own it), and it still makes me giggle every time a sharp pointy thing goes into the man's skull.
Just wait for a sale.

Dishonored is WAY too short for 60 bucks. Don't make the same mistake I did.
Really? I beat the game in 25 hours. How is that too short for 60 bucks? I mean, that is not even counting in replays, which I definitely plan on doing.

OT: Since I have Dishonored and just beat it today... No, not really. XD

Dunno if I did that right. Anyway, yeah...I don't think I'd call AC a stealth series all things considered.
Should be

>Assassins Creed
>Stealth

Pick one

:3

OT: I haven't played Dishonered yet, be I've been playing Chivalry for a time now and I'm starting to chain that with Red Orchestra 2 for some reason.

I ahve yet to play Assassin's Creed or Dishonored but just from basic observations I can tell that I will not like the former.

Funny you put Assassin's Creed and stealth in the same sentence, because you know, there is literally no real stealth elements in the game
- Merging with the crowds in the streets to avoid guards
- hiding in haystacks
- sneaking up behind people for an assassination attempt
- positioning dead bodies to draw attention away from where you're trying to get to

This is just what I thought up in the first minute after reading that post.

Yes, AC isn't a game that you can completely rely on stealth in, but NO stealth elements at all? C'mon man, get your facts straight.

Real stealth*

Assassin's Creed has just as much stealth as Uncharted. You can't really play the game stealthy. The hiding elements in the game don't really do much because its not like its hard to dispatch 30 guards by yourself in the game

Quite a few people have told me it's really short.

Shame, since it seems like an amazing game. Baby steps, though, I suppose.
ultratwinkie is only giving you half the story. Dishonored CAN be short, but that's if you up and blaze through the game. There's lots of room to explore, lots for you to find and see, a great many different ways to go about getting through the level and dealing with any given situation. Also, a lot of people from what I've seen thus far, actually play Dishonored several times over before they want to play something else. Personally? I spent a week and a half playing through the game 4 times before I went to ply something else.

I had Dishonored reserved and I do not regret paying 60 dollars. This game is completely worth it.

Something more on topic: I've been meaning to replay Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but I've been more interested in Dark Souls and Mugen Souls. Not to mention, tomorrow is a midnight release for Assassin's Creed III, which is perfect since I get off work at 11. So there's just one more reason why I won't be replaying Deus Ex just yet.

I had more flashbacks straight from the spine and the amygdala to Thief when playing Dishonoured.

Assassin's Creed - let's just say our relationship was over about two thirds into the first title.

Nobody pisses on Templars on my watch and gets away with it. It's a very rude thing to do.

After seeing that Dishonored advert pop up every time I watch a video here for the past week, I've been inspired to dust off some of the old Assassin's Creed games. The fact that they're 75% off on Steam right now might also be a contributing factor...

Anyone else going through some Ass Creed and/or stealth game nostalgia right now?

Also, I'm really confused about the choice of song for the Dishonored advert...seriously, Drunken Sailor? Creepy and atmospheric, yes, but does it figure into the plot of the game somehow? The vocalist also sounds like he/she is singing "whaler" instead of "sailor"...

I should probably stop writing sentences that trail off...
If you have stealth nostalgia play Thief(any version really), Shadows of the Metal age(a fan made Thief game that comes really close to the original at times) or any number of Thief Fan missions.

While I do like the AssCreed series, they were never about stealth, only the illusion of stealth. AssCreed is about parkouring around in a historical setting like a badass asassin but by no means a stealthy one.
You have a f**kton of weapons, can take on dozens of guards(who will attack you one at a time LOL), can string kills(from brotherhood onwards), you have other assassins at your disposal that can dispatch every guard on screen with the push of a button, etc.

In a true stealth game, you should never be forced to kill anyone. Why? Because you are a ghost that gets in, steals s**t from under their noses/murders someone QUIETLY(and this should be optional) and gets out without anyone knowing(ideally without knocking anyone out). In most so called stealth games you have moments where the game forces you into a shooting gallery and it undermines the concept of stealth. I remember playing DX:HR without killing anyone(except bosses obviously) and it was, to my surprise, quite a nice stealth game. Then I went all commando for my second playthrough and while it did get challenging at times(highest difficulty), it was generic shooter nr. 21243 and thus very, very boring.

I've watched Dishonored gameplay and while it does seem nice, from what I've heard it's very short so I'll probably wait for Thief 4.

I think it was once, so I can see where he's coming from. To pull off an assassination in the first game you were encouraged to be stealthy, otherwise the target might run away and you'd lose sync. And 2/3 of the side missions in the build-up were stealth based (pickpocketing + eavesdropping).

It doesn't seem quite as relevant now, though.

Saying Assassin's Creed is stealth...
Has anyone said that? I certainly didn't. Please actually read what I post before you respond to it.

I think there might be a stumbling block in terms of context here. Games like Thief, the pure stealth games, encourage the player to get in and out of a contained environment (mansion, mine, whatever) without anyone ever knowing they were there - staying "invisible", as it were.

By comparison, the AC series is staged in a wide open city in (most of the time) broad daylight, a place where being invisible is out of the question. The emphasis instead is on keeping a low profile -- no crazy parkour in front of guards, no knocking people over by running into them, stay out of restricted areas, etc. And yes, you are given the option (and ability) to flip out and kill guards by the dozen (who have all learned how to fight at the Chow Yung Fat Combat Arts School of Nameless Thugs), but drawing from that well too often will put you in a state of notoriety such that EVERY GUARD IN THE CITY will attack you on sight. Not a game-breaking scenario, truth be told, but not ideal either.

I also recognize that what stealth mechanics AC has could do with some revising. I'm currently playing through the second game, and there are assassination side quests, some of which require you to not be noticed by your target. In one of these, I was attacked by every guard within a 20 foot radius of my mark, but despite the cacophony of violence going on in his immediate vicinity, as long as I didn't take the fight to within 10 feet of him, he remained stationary, looking around confused. After all the guards were dead, I casually walked up to him while he was looking the other way and finished the job. This goes beyond the point of clunky into the category of "unintentionally hilarious".

I actually disagree with Ultratwinkie. The games main campaign is fairly short, true, but it makes up for quantity with quality. Extremely well designed and detailed levels, numerous methods of play and replay, as well as multiple endings.

I bought the game full priced and don't regret it in the slightest. Reminds me of Max Payne 2, another game I'd consider 'short but sweet'.
The other thing is that it only seems short with a violent run through... I got up to about 30 hours doing a full Ghost run-through my first time, my violence run was about 15 cuz I collected and looted everything

You did it wrong.

OT: Not many things will convince me to dust off my non existant copies of AC.

I played the first and didn't like it. Played the second and didn't like it. Stopped there. It's not even Assassins Creed, it's "dick around on rooftops for 10 hours, then you might actually get to assassinate someone sometime*" Creed.

*No guarantees
Pretty much. I've stopped buying them, they just get really boring. The actual assassinations are ok but if you put all those back to back then each game would only be around 1 to 2 hours long. And there is barely a reason to try and stealth anything as you are a complete murder machine.

the stealth elements have always dissappointed me in assassins creed. Its an open world game, yet the missions are so damned scripted! Most of the time it tells you WHICH haystack/ crowd to hide in! as well as telling you how to go about assassinating the target.

Which is why i liked dishonored more.

Hitman cant come soon enough :p

Eh... ACII is the best one of the series... and funny you should say that, I played through it recently... and have started another playthrough while I wait for my copy of Dishonored, which I'll kick up upon receipt and hope my machine has the juice to run it... *starts praying*

no
and i stopped buying ass creed games after 2, not because i disliked them but because ubisoft really doesn't want my money
and i did not like dishonored, i am not easily amazed by shiny open levels since there were so many little things that just kept bothering me.oh and tying the good ending to a game with a playstyle that severely limits your option? no
you should still buy the game at full price since it's a really good and a new ip and we need to support that kinda thing.

I just ran throught the AC series in prep for ACIII (which better arrive tomorrow UPS)
There not 100% stealth (FOR that I have to look to Thief) but still I'm not there for the stealth, I'm there to kill folks whilst looking dapper!
