Bambi! The only one I could think of that wasn't already mentioned, and by villain, I mean the hunter who shot his mother, and the one who tried to kill him as an adult.

Prince John in Disney's Robin Hood survived.

Good thing, too, because I loved that thumbsucker.

I knew The Little Mermaid had a sad ending with her turning into foam and all, but I never knew about that whole "tail splitting" business.

Christ, that's fucked up!

Anyway I was always disturbed by Snow White after in the original the Huntsman just rapes her and leaves her in the woods.
Well depends. I have heard 2 versions. In one he just rapes and dumps her, in the other the villain wanted her heart so Snow White offered him sex so he bangs her then cuts the heart out of a deer for the villain.
And there are people out there that bash Disney for changing the stories. I get the feeling my childhood would have been rather different if Disney had stuck to the original source material.

Hades survives in Hercules, although that's to be expected, being a god and all...
Does he though? Because he does fall into the vortex of the dead thing. No one's mentioned Fox and the Hound yet and I'm sure there would be others, I haven't seen every Disney movie ever.

EDIT: I can't believe I forgot The Emperors New Groove! Yzma doesn't die, she just remains a cat.

No... Jafar survived... There were many more movies.... Or was it a TV show?

I remember the Hunchback on Notre Dame sequel's villain was arrested at the end of the movie. That's all I can think of at the top of my head.

BTW, welcome to the Escapist!
I remember Quasimodo kicks that magician into that giant pit of fire. But maybe he didn't die, I honestly don't remember.

Also a fun fact, in the original story the girl die, Quasimodo does nothing to save her and at the end of the book he digs up her grave and cuddles next to her until he dies.

Well, that's interesting to know.

Although I guess it shouldn't be surprising. The Little Mermaid's original story also ended in tragedy.
most fairy tales (the Han Christian Anderson ones) end in tragedy, I think it was a cuddly (till the last page) way of teaching kids that life sucks! WHat a charming man he must have been!

Actually now that I think about it the TV show confirmed his death. It was the crossover episode with the Hercules cartoon where Hades and Jafar teamed up.

disney, and other great family-oriented entertainment producers, realize that the real world sucks, and sometimes, kids cant be coddled. they're gonna have to face the music someday, and their entertainment cant be all sugar coated. also, darker themes just happen to make better writing, sometimes.

There seems to be a basic rule with this: the more evil the villain, the more likely they die at the end. If they're a comedy villain or they don't actually do anything that serious (eg they're just selfish; they never actually try to kill any people) then they live but get some kind of comeuppance.

He's not a magician, he's just an old Judge. And boy, does he ever die. He goes down like a ***** in the most epic Disney death ever created.

I could have sworn Cruella DeVille died. My memory tells me her car crashes somehow and we never see her again, implying death.
