I have a reluctant admiration of Disney movies. I say reluctant because, while usually masterful in execution, they are a terrifying example of money-guzzling media corporations. So (reluctantly) here is some information about my Disney preferences:
Pixar:
As visuals go, I love Finding Nemo's palette, but it's not my favorite. That most likely goes to Wall-E, which was exceptionally well done for the first half, and great on a different level in the second. I have yet to see all of Up but I like what I did see and I look forward to the rest of it.
Classic Disney:
This one is super tough for me because of how many favorites I had. When I was a kid I was a huge fan of: The Rescuers (and Down Under), The Great Mouse Detective, The Fox and the Hound, Alladin, The Lion King, Hercules, Beauty and the Beast and Mulan, but I've seen more than I care to count at the moment, and enjoyed most of them. If I'm really honest, I think The Lion King wins out overall and I continue to enjoy it (though I acknowledge that it's racism is apparent and could have been easily avoided).
What I love most about classic Disney is the songs, though. They're catchy and fun, so I have a tendency to listen to them rather a lot. So here are my top 5 Disney songs:
5. The Circle of Life - from The Lion King
4. Colours of the Wind - from Pocahontas
3. Just One Jump Ahead - from Alladin
2. Make a Man Out of You - from Mulan
1. Be Prepared - from The Lion King
Non-Pixar, Non-Classic:
Due to reasons I cannot divulge, due to an NDA, I have a fondness for Disney's Tinker Bell cgi film that came out in 2008. We will not discuss this matter further, for several reasons, not the least of which is the fact that I am well aware of how bad it is.
