Breaking news [http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=96524]
So Disney will buy Lucasfilm and all that entails for $4.05bill USD, taking "Star Wars" under it's umbrella. At the same time as this announcement they announced a new Star Wars movie, Episode VII, slated for a 2015 release. No specific word on LucasArts, the video game arm of the business, but presumably that will be included.

Cue Mickey Mouse as the next Dark Lord of the Sith, and begin speculation on the first Star Wars/Marvel crossover film.

Hmm, didn't see that either. It seems like the newsroom always manages to report news before everyone else, even before it happens itself...

Well, I am a huge Star Wars fan, so this sounds pretty exciting. I just don't know how they plan to make four whole new movies in just three years that will have special effects as good as the original Episodes 1-3.

Well, I wasn't actually expecting that.

Now, am I excited or depressed?
Does the fact that George Lucas is only a Creative Consultant make you feel any better? I just read from the L.A. times that George Lucas's only input so far will be that he's just a creative consultant.

As far as I am concerned, Episode VII can't be too bad with that news in my head. If only They would replace Episode VII and just make Shadows of the Empire the new movie, that would be pretty awesome.

Oh well, one can only dream.

Yeah, that definitely lands me on the "excited" side of the divide. Excellent.

LOTR was shot all in one go, as basically one long movie, before being broken into individual films.

And I'll be damned if I'll hear anyone argue it was inferior to those appalling fucking prequels.

Really though, I desperately hope they go back to using models for some stuff. The over-reliance on CGI in the prequels made everything look plastic and horrible.

You're all trolling, you bastards. I haven't read your fake link and I'm not going to.

Good day.

I am very curious to see where they go with the new trilogy. There's only two ways this can happen - one of the more popular EU novel series are going to be adapted, or most of the EU will be completely shafted and ignored so Lucas can do his own thing.

They even went as far as having CGI babbies.
Why on EARTH.

Sometimes I wonder if we've got a CGI Lucas. It would explain the abrupt disappearance of all the man's talent after the early 80's.

Lucas is not directing these.

Just think...

Christopher Nolan's Star Wars!
Joss Whedon's Star Wars!
James Cameron's Star Wars!

Possibilities are endless.

Until they hire Renny Harlin. Then we can be depressed again.

I'm interested as to how this'll turn out. It's either gonna be brilliant or terrible, and seeing as I'm a massive star wars fan, it better be brilliant. I take it Disney now own Lucasarts as well?

You know where it's going to end up right?

And don't think that they wouldn't because we all know they will.

This can be good or bad. I'm hoping they just shoot 100 years into the future with any new films or go way in the past like the Tales of the Jedi comic series. I didn't have any problem with Lucas as a director, but it was the screenplays for the prequels that were often painful. With him just being a creative consultant, hopefully this means any ideas that are totally out of left field (midichlorians fathering Anakin?) will get squashed by the actual writers/director/producers/etc.

I just don't want them trying to do, say, Timothy Zahn's Heir to the Empire trilogy with new actors or total CG. As much as I love the storyline in those novels, it wouldn't be the same without the original actors, and even if they weren't too old to play the roles, they likely wouldn't do it anyway.
