Hello fellow Escapists!

Long story short, I have a massive infection in my gum causing large amounts of hurt and painkillers aren't able to do much more than take the edge off at the moment (I can't see the dentist until tomorrow so options are a tad limited).

In anticipation of another sleepless/hellish night, what would you, in all your wisdom, suggest I do to distract myself OR, what have you done in the past when in a similar situation?

This can be games, films, videos, amusing youtube clips...anything at all that can while away 20 minutes onwards :)

Let the wisdom commence!

Sleeping pills + Pain pills + Liquor = Unfeeling Coma.

You'll be out for several hours. Have fun.

Search Charlie Brooker on Youtube. For those less culturally aware folks, he's the Origanal Ben Croshaw.

Weed. I hear it's great for taking away physical pain, wouldn't know myself.

Get appendicitis, it'll give you some prespective on the pain scale.
Seriously, the night before I went into hospital was the longest, most painful night I have ever experienced.

Watch a really deep film. Or a really violent, action packed one. I also heard that causing pain elsewhere on the body can distract you from the major pain. So take a road flare, and STICK THAT ***** IN YOUR ARM.

Been there, done that, didn't get to keep the hospital gown.

I was lucky (I guess?) in that my appendix went from good to very bad extremely quickly so there was no 'night before' experience for me, it was a case of go to school in the morning and have appendix out at 11 at night. That was a fun day....*shudder*

this is a common problem for him being a chronic pain patient and my parents refuse to give me pain meds, and since I have done research into ways to deal with pain and the most common thing I hear is a double dose of cough medication.

So much win in a single sentance! I fully second this.

Find a good webcomic and read all of it in one sitting. It works!

Go on a Red vs. Blue marathon and try and watch all 8 seasons in one night.
This is the sort of thing I mean! Good ideas :)

Eat a gobstopper? Eat something cold maybe? Have any of that anesthetic gel you can get for teething kids? I hear it works on adults still.

Weclome to the Escapist! Be polite, efficient and have a plan to kill everyone you meet

And never go in the Basement...just don't

OT: Ah...severe pain. Always fun. I suffer from a sort of phantom Hyper-cramp that has attacked me at random twice in my life. The first time was on an overnight plane from LA to London. NOT FUN. The stupid air hostess said ALOUD IN A PLANE WHERE EVERYONE HAD EATEN THE SAME THING that it could be food poisining. Mass hysteria followed. Turned out I'm just prone to horrific and ungodly abdomanal pain. Second time was on the train from Dundee to Edinburgh. So much hurt I was sick everywhere

In both situations, the pain was stopped by lying over the seat (so your upper body and head is lying on the backside part of the seat and the rest is off it, like a baby over it's mothers shoulder)

However, as for pain of the dental variety...a bracing walk? a REALLY bracing walk. Like, 4 hours at night.
