Here in Australia our government has a strange beleif that it knows whats best for our health and will stop at nothing to tell us how bad our lifestyles are for us. At Prime Time, television ads usually have one disturbing ad in them. They are usually the three I have provided links too. I don't think that showing graphic images of smokers lungs or a melenoma growth is a good thing for people who are sitting down infront of the TV for a nice evening with the family (sometimes while eating) should be shown these images. What parent wants to explain the images on TV to their children, especialy if that parent smokes. But the ads on TV are not the worse problem, the ads (usually the one with the bad teeth) are show in movie theater ads and on giant bilboards. Who really wants to see these horrible images everywhere they go?

I'm all for getting people off smoking (dirty habbit) but i really think that this is an extreme.

I was wondering what other Aussies and people from other countries think of these ads and if they same thing exists outside of AUS.

Warning the following links contain graphic images.

Haha. I love these ads. Yes we should show people these ads. Why? Because of the shock tactics. If kids see these and get scared by them, a job well done. Hopefully they get put off the death sticks.

I think these ads are awesome and that a parent being asked questions by their kids and having to explain the ads is excellent too. Even better if the parent smokes. Sucked in parent, for being such a crap role model and being called out on it by a fucking ad. And yes I'm Australian.

You know, the Australian's and Lucas could get together and do a commercial!

Hay, you wanna bye some death sticks?
You don't want to sell me death sticks.
I don't want to sell you death sticks.
You want to go home and rethink your life.
I want to go home and rethink my life.

Come to think of it, someone's done that haven't they?
But, yeah, graphic. Really graphic. I'm feeling sick now.

It's working, though; New Scientist says that Australia will be the first country to give up smoking.

I doubt. Waaay too many people smoke down here (I don't just for the records. The smell of it puts me off). I don't think we're getting to being a non-smoking country fast.

My Idea for a campaign.

Get Big Kev to fondle some smokers while yelling "I'm excited"

Finally, to black, and the warning.

"You smoking may cause Big Kev to become aroused"

That will scare off every smoker in the country faster than you can say 'fat man sex'

ermm, ouch... Well, not during dinner or lunch or any other time when you eat. But these ads REALLY put me off of smoking or something else, not that i ever smoked. So they really do their job right.

The latest one isn't anywhere near as graphic as those ones. Disappointing really, I think those ones were, and are still, a bit more effective.

Ads like these are part of the reason I don't own a TV. I don't want to sit down in front of my TV with a good meal only to see images of a smokers lungs... Mmmm mmm the black parts are the best parts. TV sucks.

I can understand that those ads ain't the best to see when your eating or can lead to some awkward convo's with your kids but hell, it's a habit that not only hurts your self but also others and has little benefit other then lobby groups paying out pollies. As long as they're effective then power to 'em. That old RTA speeding ad and the 'We're all going on a summer holiday' ad were the ones that got me.

I actually meant the latest smoking one in Australia. My bad, I should've been a little more specific. I meant the one where the people say what disease they want to get instead of the brand of cigarettes they want when they buy them. It's funny in a disturbing sort of way.
