Yeah, some of those adds are pretty disturbing, but they're effective. Certainly Scared me out of it. Not that I ever smoked or wanted to smoke.
I think we're good at making those warning adds.

Anyone remember that Speeding add with the Powderfinger song in the Background ("Stumblin" I belive). It seemed so much like a car commercial that when the crash happened it shocked me. Very Effective.

EDIT: As if this place doesn't have enough links, Heres the one I mean.

*lights a cigar*

I have to say that not having a television has never seemed a better idea at this point. All I have to do now is close youtube and away are all bad thoughts.

*draws on cigar*

Ahh, I'm such a happy person.

Geez is that a good ad. Or maybe "effective". I've seen a few other ones too. Can't be bothered finding it but the gist is this:
1) Family driving in car with Dad at the wheel. It all seems like a normal car ad. Narrator saying "Steve knows this, Steve knows that etc but Steve doesn't know if his car has a 4 star safety raitng or better." All of a sudden WHAM, t-boned. Shocking stuff.
2)A very good tired driving ad that shows with handy dandy special effects what happens when you drive tired, then what happens when you crash. They vanish the car and just show the driver hovering in the air. All of a sudden gashes start appearing on his body and even a bone comes out. Really graphic.
3)I'm sure this one has quite a kick for parents but the soundtrack made it more of a joke for others. A whole bunch of little kids riding around the suburb on trikes. There's a cutesy soundtrack "Hacing fun in the sun, on my new dirt racer, so many things to see, so many places to be, fun for you and me (kids turn out onto the road), riding young and-"
all of a sudden a car hits the lead child.
So yeah, in Australia you either get used to brutal government ads or you stop watching tv.

The second one has been shown here in Canada, but without the accent.
You people really have no need to import disturbing ads.

Don't know what to think of these commercials. Not something I'd want my nephew to see, but then again I'm probably not gonna be walking on slippery floors for awhile.

Holy shit the first one was bad.
Worse then the ones I put up because atleast you can stop smoking, how you can stop slipping and pouring boiling water on you is beyond me.

The strange thing is people think this ad is the worst one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V1OwW6dQ3E

Oh Jesus, I came in here to report in on these ads. I've had that poor slipping-on-the-floor woman stuck in my head for the past week! Fuck that, I'm not watching the rest of them.

tosser stoped people from littering so mabey we need something like that. if we make people think oh say fag=smoking it could stop people starting. make fun of smokers, old smokers wont care. young smokers knew what they were geting into. and non-smokers will tease smokers so no worry there. but that will only work for teens.

someking will be around for some time. why?
1 the goverment gets money, they want smoking.
2 some people cant stop so just cuting off the supply will be very bad.
3 morons will take it up just for the fun of it.

Holy crap, this just reminded me of that "HAVING FUN IN THE SUN... ON MY NEWWWWW DIRT RACER! SOOOO MANY PLACES TO BE< SO MANY PEOPLE TO SEE..."

Ad with the kid on his new tricycle, and then a car runs him over. That ad was wicked.

EDIT! I found the ad, and oh god is the song catchy!

I rarely watch TV and even before that, I was too use to seeing them since my mum and sister LURVE TV. I don't really think most kids (depending on age) should be up at prime time, I know I never got to stay up that late until I was at least thirteen.
