First off, you're playing Dark Souls, not Demons' Souls. Nitpicky, but meh.
Secondly, we all got this story from talking to NPCs, reading item descriptions (which are the backbone of this game's story), checking the locations of items and drawing inferences from them (for example, the location of the Hornet Ring behind Artorias' grave implies Ciaran's feelings for Artorias), and just communicating our theories to each other. Admittedly, you missed a lot of the community's discussions, but there's still plenty of info out there to find and talk about. And, of course, plenty for you to find in the world, to which end I wish you happy hunting! =)
On topic, though, I've got a rather interesting one from Dark Souls:
The Painted World of Ariamis. This is an optional area in the game that you need a special item to enter--the Peculiar Doll--and this world contains all manner of things the gods either feared or didn't want around. Case in point is Priscilla, who entered the world via the:
Peculiar Doll
A strange doll in strange dress.
There once was an abomination who had no place in this world. She clutched this doll tightly, and eventually was drawn into a cold and lonely painted world.
This 'abomination' is Priscilla, the Crossbreed--half dragon, half goddess(?)--and she wields the power of Lifehunt, which was feared by even the gods (as if being half-dragon and surrounded by the slayers of dragons wasn't enough). As a child, it seems that she exiled herself into the Painted World to escape persecution, or because she simply felt that she didn't belong with any of the gods and goddesses. When you encounter her at the end of this world, she asks that you leave this '[peaceful land]' and that the 'inhabitants [are] kind'. Who are these kind inhabitants, you ask? Oh, just a bunch of hollows, mutated soldiers, skeletons strapped to chariot wheels, hollows whose bodies are bloated with toxic fluids, and humans who are mutated into birdlike creatures, serving the Goddess of Sin, Velka.
That's the company she keeps, along with the large number of bodies impaled on spikes (which still bleed when you hit them). What's saddest of all is that she considers herself better off here than outside, and who knows how long she's locked herself away for.
What makes it a bit more disturbing is that it's heavily implied that Seath--presumed to be the only known dragon alive--was involved with her creation somehow. It's been thought that either Gwynevere is the mother or one of her handmaidens, but I'm of a different mind. The cthulhu monsters in the Archives are his mistakes, but what if Priscilla was his success? Both the Picasas and Priscilla share a crystal breath attack, which Seath is known for, and he was trying to replicate the scales of immortality. What if Priscilla was born from an experiment on the daughter of one of Gwynevere's handmaidens?
So that would mean Priscilla was once normal, but was experimented on, persecuted to the point of her exiling herself in a world for abominations, and now sees these monsters who will kill you on sight as 'kind.' That's pretty fucked up! Sorry this went on so long, but I really love the lore in Dark Souls, especially regarding the Painted World, haha!
