You want a disturbing metal album cover? Here's the cover from Atreyu's greatest hits [http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/dd/TheBestOfAtreyu.jpg]

Makes me shudder. By the way, I'm aware that many hardcore metal fans don't classify Atreyu as metal. I'm not entirely sure why though, I can't think of anything else to classify them as. But in any case, don't send any "Atreyu aren't metal!" or "They suck!" type messages. They will simply be ignored.

EDIT: Also, if you're not into violence, you probably shouldn't be listening to metal in the first place. Unless you're into that Christian Metal stuff. Now that's just weird.
You should have put a lot more warnings about that link... *shudder*

he killed them yes, he didnt rip out their intestines and hang them on his wall, A'la cannibal corpse.
if they show a guy witha gun, thats fine, show some dead bodies, ok, no need to show them mutilated and violated

Lol I dont like christian metal. Im specifcally talking about stuff that would give Wes Craven nightmares. I like heavy metal, i just hate the bands who have no real atalent, trying to market themselves as heavy by putting stuff from stephen kings wet dreams on their albums

Personally I don't really like Atreyu much, but that album cover is just epic.

Cannibal Corpses' album covers are hilariously bad.

But I think with metal music, it is best to have a sense of humour. Don't worry about crappy cover art so much.
I agree with you about the art of the album covers and poster and t-shirts. However some band's lyrics are just fucked up and should not be allowed into existence. Well in my opinion anyway.

The most disturbing metal album covers will always be one of Manowar's.

Mabye not in a "EWW" disturbing sense, or even a kind of "Holy Fuck!" way, but try and argue that it doesnt at least rub in you in the slightest wrong way.
That kind of rubs me the right way... *nods*

Some death metal albums have covers that I find to be rather athestically pleasing:

Of course, us metal-heads have a rather bizzare taste in art :p

Hrmmm... I think that Anal C*nt have the most disturbing album covers I've run across. Terrible band, though I guess you can't expect much from a group using the name they do....

To defend death metal, not ALL of it's about... well, gore and death. A lot of it is just death metal because of the vocal style.

For bands like Cannibal Corpse, they're just trying to be a variant of shock rock. They'd basically be ignored entirely if they didn't do SOMETHING to attract attention, and so they do the only thing they can. That is, go beyond the realms of 'political message' and basically make gore porn. For the sole reason of attention-whoring.

I did a project on Black Metal for a public speaking class-- during my research (and by "research" I mean "skimming of Wikipedia") I came across the album cover for Mayhem's CD Dawn of the Black Hearts, which features a picture of the band's vocalist after his suicide (slit wrists and shotgun blast to the head).

I've seen some brutal album art, but for me, that one takes the cake. There's some debate as to whether or not the image is real, but the guy did commit suicide and it's still pretty disturbing to place the image of a former band member's bloody corpse on the front of an album.

The only thing more amusing than Metal cover art is Metal subgenres. As many have said, it's best to come at that sort of thing with a sense of humour.

But seriously, Cannibal Corpse and Cradle have just become things you expect to have gore. Maiden did it much better, with more panache and a degree of political amusement rather than just "LOOKIE BLUD!" Which, incidentally, seems to be the them for many 'hardcore' fans of both Corpse and Cradle. Odd that.

And yet no one has mentioned how T-shirts can be worse. Anyone recall Cradle of Filth's shirt featuring a nun pleasuring herself with the text, "Jesus is a ****!"?
I dont like the band but the t-shirt was just brilliant.

Pretty sure that it is faked. For once the brain is still mostly intact and it seems to me that there is too litle blood (not that there has to be a lot but the body has about 5 liters of blood and at least half of that would spill out in a case like this).
