Whenever I see a thread about any genre of games I inevitably see at least one post saying "I don't like X" or "I only play Y" and it kinda made me think, how can you not play an entire type of game?

So I made this thread

How many genre of games do you play?
What genre do you play?
What genre do you not?
Why not?

I pretty much play anything, FPS, TPS, RTSs, Rpgs of all kinds, anything.
The only type I dont commonly play are Sports games, casual games, fighting games and racing games,
Even these genre I'll play from time to time.

Also are there any story types you don't like in games?
For me no but I thought I'd ask.

Keep it civil and respectful please

I expect people to overwhelmingly reply that they play RPGs but don't play sports games. Buncha nerds!

I'll play most things but I'm not that into simulation style car driving games, fighting games or historical grand strategy games.

I'm not really into military type stories.

I was starting to think no one was gonna post.

I'll play any genre, no, seriously. I prefer a quality game in a genre I don't normally play to a bland game in my favourite genre.

My favourite genre is RTS but I also like the main ones as well.

I don't generally play sports sims or racing games. Sports games are pure stat management which isn't my thing and since I like sci-fi I don't get on with many racing games. Though to be fair I played the everloving out of Wipeout when the PS2 came out.
I don't mean to start an argument but

What does one have to do with the other?
You phrased that as though (for example) Star trek fans aren't supposed to like Formula 1.

I'll play anything aslong as it's good. I'll stop if I get bored.
The only thing I avoid is overly casual games.

I don't touch sports games or RTS games, they simply don't entertain me, and I rarely touch racing games unless they're more arcadey like Burnout or Mario Kart.

I mainly play shooters. Most of my 360's library are shooters, but that dosen't mean I don't play other genres.

Not really into sports games that much though, unless its more arcade like.

It depends on the game.

I currently don't play FPS's because for the most part they are all just new chapters in the "Adventures of Grizzle T. McGrizzlington: Surly Military Gun Man" but I will play an FPS that deviates (Waiting on Portal 2 and I love most of valves FPS stuff).

I haven't been playing RTS or TBS because they just are getting too much for me. I like building a base, I like blowing up the other guy but I like to be able to do it without memorising a tome of instructions and 500 hotkey commands. DoWII is very much my style of thing lately.

I'm fairly constrained because I only have a laptop for games currently and that drives my purchases because there are some things I just don't want to play on this which is no different from when I had a console and didn't want to play certain varieties of game on that.

Chances are if a game hooks my interest I play it no matter what but there is a lot of samey shit out there.

EDIT: Also there are certain games I will only ever play multiplayer like Gears of War and its sequels. I've played at friends houses, online deathmatch, one on one, horde, etc., but I can never see myself playing the gaming with smashing my controller having to put up with the retards who star in it.

I like pure escapism in games, I prefer a fantasy or sci-fi setting to a real world one. Racing games are normally heavily based in reality. Driving a Ford Focus with some twit yelling 'right 15, jump, maybe' every five seconds and arsing about adjusting air foil elevation bore me.
Fair enough, though there are plenty of arcade racing games where high speed maneuvering and absurd stunts comes first and realism is left holding the drinks, burnout's a good example, Road Rash is another.

Shame they don't make so many anymore.

I like racing games with good controls and insane stunts and flips. I'll keep my eyes out for road rash but I already know I like burnout. Problem is that I'm confronted with the rally games, the f1 ones (dear god) and the GT series and endless tweaking bores me.

I used to like demolition racer on the ps1 a lot, it was a crummy game generally but the racing was awesome, it was all about wrecking other cars.
Road rash is on PS1, N64 and PC a couple of older consoles have a road rash game as well, The idea is you race on motorbikes and can take out competitors by whacking them over the head repeatedly or kicking them in to oncoming traffic, plus cops try to stop you occasionally.

You might like Twisted Metal, a vehicular combat game whereyou drive vehicles armed with high power weapons in a big tourament.
There's a new one coming out soon too!

Also the much older Carmageddon,
It is a racing game but it nearly never ends with somone crossing the finish line,
You have a time limit to cross various checkpoints by, you get more time by running over pedestrians, and you can win by wrecking your competitors, there's also crazy power-ups like moon gravity, Jelly suspesion and my personal favourite the electro bastard ray which makes pedestrians that you get close to explode.

I actually hate all sports, but I can enjoy sports games oddly enough, I only really play them with mates though.

EDIT Crap meant to edit that in.

I play different type of games, but mostly action games.

Favorite genres are FPS, RPG, RTS and Sport
I mostly like more tactical FPS games, so I don't really enjoy COD games. Tom Clancy's and anything created by Bohemia Interactive Studios are my type of games.

I don't play fighting(except DBZ games) I also don't play much JRPGs, although I did start playing Chrono Trigger few days ago. Love that game.

I enjoy pretty much everything except RTS games. They just dont seem to hold my attention for long, although i´ll admit there´s some pretty good ones out there.

I mainly play shooters. They're my staple genre with RPGs being a close second. I love Hack'n'Slash action games, but it's hard for one to grab me. I love Action-RPGs because of the multiplayer, but there are so few around. I quite like RTS, however I prefer them on PC and my computer can barely running Europa Universilas III (which I'm currently playing and throughly enjoying). Other those I'll play most things. I'm not a huge fan of fighting games but I'll play Scenario Campaign on Tekken 6 from time-to-time or maybe a bit of Super Street Fighter IV with a couple friends. I'm not a fan of sports or racing games, however. I would like to play a good turn-based JRPG (or possibly any JRPG), but I can't get into Final Fantasy and no other one has caught my eye since Dark Cloud on the PS2. Although I do hear that there's a Steampunk one about...

I like a lot of genre of games, including sub-genres of those genres (Traditional RTS vs RTT).
I don't touch most racing games and most sports games (Except for FIFA), although I do play them sometimes. Personally, I'm more of a multiplayer person.

Like:
3rd person 3D action is my favorite genre and I'm willing to try pretty much any game, even though most of them suck as bad as God of War or are worse.

Shmups from trusted devs (Cave, Treasure)

FPS called Halo (also ones that have enough intersting aspects like Bulletstorm.)

Chess sims.

Starting to like again:

Fighting and Racing

Used to like:

RTS (quit because I felt that competetivley I was at an unacceptably low level.)

2D platformer/ Run and Gun (Mostly because the ones that are released nowaday are terrible.)

Iffy:

TPS. Vanquish ruined these games for me. Can never go back to Gears, Uncharted or Mass Effect. They are all shitty.

Dislike:
Stealth (boring), turn based games (that aren't board game sims), RPG, Text based games, visual novels, Rythm, Zelda-clones, adventure.

I the only genres I really steer away from is sports games, I just find them rather dull, I do enjoy Mario Strikers. Them and RTSs, and thats cause I suck at 'em, and lack the care to get better, I've never found one that grabs me and I've tried a few.

I have a few genres I play more often that others, naturally, but I could probably name at least a few games from every genre that I play.
