All of the "Hero" games are fucking ridiculous, especially DJ and Band Hero.

Band Hero is just fucking pathetic. Its got Taylor Swift on the soundtrack. It fucking sucks.

And DJ Hero is just stupid. You do the exact same thing as a real DJ as you do in DJ Hero. Just be an actual DJ.
Three Swift songs on a single disc..

You know what? I like the idea. It's better than Guitar Hero 42... It caters to people with different tastes in music.

Also, DJing isn't necessarily as easy as DJ Hero because if you're inept at 'making music' then you play rhythm games, even if you're not, you play rhythm games.

or "If you wanted to play the guitar, use a real guitar"? Same thing.

Anyway it depends on the type of music you're into. I think I'd enjoy DJ Hero more than guitar hero (never actually played Guitar Hero though) because it's more my type of music.
Not really, a guitar takes 15+ years of practice to actually become good. DJ decks...pff what...a week? Theres your switchy doo daa, heres other peoples music you ruin and how bout that home boy a flanger unit.

Just played Band Hero last night - it now fails even more...they censored the word whiskey in American Pie.

They became too greedy and tried to expand to a new genre, and failed. In my opinion all the "hero" games suck, since they give people the illusion of playing a real instrument by actually playing simon says and looking like an idiot.
Again, having played real drums and these drums, they are an exception to your opinion. The Rock Band Drums are the best at simulating an instrument, and the GH drums frighteningly more so with the addition of cymbals. Its a great way to increase the wrist strength needed for tough fills on both the fake and real set.

I remember when guitar hero was kind of a cool indie concept, but ever since it got big and the developers realized they could crap one out every month and make an extreme amount of money from it it's pretty much been shovelware. DJ hero is just a way of making that shovelware appeal to the hiphop crowd.

As for my actual opinion on it, I think playing the "guitar" or "bass" on it is extremely lame and couldn't be further removed from the actual experience if they tried. The drums are pretty much an oversimplified drumkit, so at least the context in which you use them is similar, and the singing is kareoke. It can be fun to play the drums or do vocals if I'm at a party or something, nothing wrong with having a beer with your pals and playing guitar hero. DJ hero lacks the same charm though. First of all, hiphop or DJing doesn't have that same fun feeling about it that rock does. Second, DJing is barely even a talent in real life, so a DJ simulator really seems undignified. Third, do we really need to mix soulja boy and lady gaga?

I was so surprised by Dj Hero, i passed it off straight away when it was announced. But then i actually played it in a store it was so much fun i ran home to smash my piggy bank and find old games to trade just so i could have it. This was two months ago since then i traded it back and brought dragons age. Fail.

Remember Donkey Konga? That game made me want to play the Bongos. I might suck at the bongos but at least I have fun.

I like DJ Hero and I own the game, I have it tucked away in my cabinet next to my Tekken 6 controller. Speaking of which...

In a few years I expect to see two things:

MARTIAL ARTIST: Hey man, Tekken and Street Fighter aren't anything like real fighting. It takes you years to build the strength and body toning to hold your own in a real martial arts tournament.

ME: But what if I just want to have fun?

MARTIAL ARTIST: Um, well... HYAAAA (breaks arm)

The other thing I expect to see in a few years (which I am writing a satire short story about the sheer ludicrousness of):

WRITER HERO: Bust out Victorian novels and contemporary cult classics on a genuine Hunter S. Thompson styled WRITER HERO TYPEWRITER CONTROLLER (TM). Type along to your favorite short stories and passages from noted writers! Note: A debacle about whether David Foster Wallace is available as a playable character has caused us not to be revealed whether he will be included in the game.

I've been a practicing DJ in my bedroom for nearly three years now, and I'll tell you all right away that DJ Hero doesn't even begin to duplicate what the real thing is all about.

It took me a solid seven months of practice before I was able to put together a set that didn't sound like an old cassette mixtape, and even then there were still tons of clashy mixes on my part. I've gotten much better over the last year, but there's still so much for me to learn......

As for the game? The tracks have been blended together for you perfectly by the game's designers and the musicians who provided the tracks, so all you're left with is another music rhythm game with a different input method. At most it will teach you some of the basics about scratching. And even then you're just following along with pre-programmed motions.

Like I've said about Guitar Hero and Rock Band before it......it's a great party game and a fun time-waster, but if you're serious about getting into playing music or DJing I wouldn't waste my time with any of these. Buy a real set of instruments or invest in a mixer/turntable combo (or laptop/MIDI controller for you digital jocks!) and learn how to do it for real. Simple as that......

If you're seriously buying any of the Hero games in order to learn to play the real thing then you're a hopeless case and have no concept of the real-world.

Besides, $120 is much easier for me to come by than paying for the instrument, lessons, new strings, an amp, and the time spent mastering said instrument. Sometimes, I just want to have fun without hardly any work.

personally i think that the guitar heroes series is good, until after the world tour when it started getting ridiculous. As for DJ Hero i can understand what you mean by that but when you think about it, comparing playing on a DJ machine to a plastic model of one can be quite different and for a change from guitars to djs is just plain silly.

I liked it better when it was called beatmania and the game mechanics were completely different from DJ Hero in every imaginable way.

I am so sick of this argument. Aside from the fact it works both ways and could potentially be used against Guitar Hero, Rock Band and any music game ever, it's just a fucking ridiculous argument. Zoo Magazine should just stick to showing us tits.

Learning any music instrument takes years of practice, and even then you won't be very good compared to established musicians. Heaven forbid you actually have to write your own songs as well. Obviously that's a big committment to make, so only those that are really serious about it should do so; on the other hand, learning any music game takes minutes. Well what if one day I think "hmm, wouldn't it be cool if I was a rockstar?" Not a problem, I just put in Guitar Hero/Rock Band/whatever and I can live out my fantasy for a few hours then go do something else. I am not going to invest that much time, money and effort to satisfy a momentary urge.

People who use this argument just don't seem to grasp what music games are about; they are another way of enjoying the music, living a brief fantasy and more importantly, just having some fun. You don't play Modern Warfare 2 because you want to become a soldier do you?

I think it's a trend in the videogaming world to rip on DJ Hero despite the fact it caters to an entirely different music taste than Guitar Hero. I don't really like rock, I hate Metal so I am not that interested by Guitar Hero because it's mostly dominated by those two genres. DJ Hero has a much greater focus on Hip Hop, Electro and Dance which I much prefer; a lot of the music in DJ Hero is ripped pretty much from what DJs play in clubs in the moment. Hell, the DLC adds 'Sexy Chick', which I must have heard around a thousand times already.

And honestly, this beats anything any Guitar Hero game ever had it its soundtrack:
