DLC Making Better Games or Lazy Profit

I was looking at the 40% off Civilization 5 DLC and I was wondering whether I should be outraged they are charging 3$ at the reduced price for a single leader or happy about giving the beloved company of one of my favorite games money to expand and thrive.

Is there anyway to check that the money I am giving to the companies doesn't just goes in a big money pile for pure profits or as an investment in my favorite gaming companies.

You could investigate the companies portfolio, and where they spend the largest chunk of money, like development, R & D, etc. But you will probably never actually find out where every dollar gets spent.
