You could spice it up by having one dimension mess with time and thus movment. So one room movement is cut in half while in another time is 3x as fast so you move 3x as fast? I have always wanted to try this sorta thing, just seems cool.

Also by law the last item has to be hope or some item the party had the whole time. "You had the key with you the whole time, it was in you!"

Good luck with your game and I hope the others (who post after me) advice is far better than mine.

Considering I am currently playing a mostly improvised campaign (general skeleton is there, but we have basically nuked the rails within half a session) where are current motivation for killing the big bad is settling a debt since he stole some gnomish slaves from us. And one character is the ruler of two small slaving villages...

Sounds good, don't care much for the Terrasque part, you could probally use a less iconic monster or make up your own.
You know I was thinking that, but when I pictured an army of assorted Giants, Men, Elves, Goblins, Golems, what have you, versus an army of demons with...

When I pictured the Tarrasque at the head of the charge and colliding with it I was just amazed...

Until, while writing this, I pictured a Colossus, armed with sword and sheild locking into Combat with the other titan.
So 4e also bastardized the Terrasque
This is the Terrasque

I know? And the only way it's "bastardized" is that it's green now

I read your story and I have two things to suggest.

1: beware of 'world' ending games, because its very difficult to GM them well. Its easier on the GM to stick to smaller scale scenarios. Your overall plot will NOT make your game better if you do not have the capability to keep up with it.

2: PRESENTATION is way more important than CONTENT.
