This is why I only play 2nd edition D&D.

I tried the other versions that came out and always felt like a tax preparer instead of a role-player.

You need to specify which edition you are playing before I would feel comfortable saying any more.

To be fair, I'm no D&D expert but wouldn't that make you around an animal's level of intelligence?

I think that its a 1 per level minimum with skill points.

4 intelligence is barely sentient.
1 or 2 is animal intelligence.
3 is lowest form of sentient intelligence.

Mortai and Stagnant are both correct. Additionally, at 2 Int, your character would qualify for animal intelligence and would not be able to speak.

Were I GMing that particular game, I'd insist on a new character. If the GM forced rolled characters and I got that, I'd reroll immediately without asking. The character is basically unplayable.

Edit: His post mentions SP. Earlier had NWPs as an optional rule, and 4th has trained/not in skills, so he's playing 3.5 (4 SP for a barbarian, x4 1st level - 3.0 had 2 (I believe) and PF doesn't do the x4 bit, but uses other bonuses).

Yeah, it should be noted that 3 is the minimum intelligence for a sentient creature. Also it's at least part of the 3.5 D&D rules (which are the only ones I know) that you get a minimum of one skill point per level. So you would get four skill points for creating your character at 1st level and then one point every level after.

Still, I recommend you reroll or rebuild your character using whatever method is available since a 2 intelligence character would literally be unable to operate in an adventuring party... Unless he was the team pet, I suppose.

That could actually be pretty damn hilarious in a silly game with a good, experienced group of players. In the hands of novices it would be a disaster. Played straight, where the character is actually severely mentally retarded (using it as a medical term - IQ ~40), and it just might be suitable for the World of Darkness, Call of Cthulhu, or Unknown Armies.

Though it would be a very hard role to play. That character would be virtually helpless.

Oh, I wouldn't worry about it. If you've got a truly stupid barbarian, run with it. make 'im funny as hell and ramp up his smarts when it's time for the XP.

DnD is not like Fallout 3 (at least not the fourth addition) intelligence does not determine "skill points"
Intelligence only determines certain skills, and certain power mods.
As a barbarian, intelligence is pretty unimportant.

his stats are as fallowed,
str 20

dex 16

con 18

int 2

wis 3

cha 14

were limiting him to 1 to 2 word statements only. he is unable to use money, or to know the value of money. basically im playing him as a barely functional retard who happens to be very good at hitting things with his axe. and yes i could of given him the 14 intell, but than he would of bin ugly, and i cant have that now can i.

As others have already said, you cannot have that low of intelligence. More importantly, are you using point-buy? Because I'm pretty certain that collection of rolls you just showed is nigh on statistically impossible if you are doing 4d6 drop one, which I believe is the advised roll for DnD. If you are doing point-buy, I'm pretty certain you aren't supposed to go that far into the negatives. You may as well have dropped the charisma a couple points to make your int and wis at least 6.

In short, you are doing it so very, very wrong.

You shouldnt get lower than the base math I believe. So, you would get 4, then 1 per level, regardless of intellect... And seriously, your character may be unplayable with that intelligence.

we did dice roles ;p, and im doing it wrong on purpose, i was just wondering if i get no skill points or if there was a minimal amount. i did not notice the skill points issue in tell i decided on my stats, i was like, oh shit lol. if it was 0 points i was just going to role with it and be like w/e im to dumb to learn.

and we used d20. cause that's how we roll. and i could get 2 with a 4d6, its called rolling 4 1 and taking away 2 cause im a half orc.
