Do achievements/trophies affect how you play a game?

I was playing left 4 dead earlier with a couple of friends, and one of them decided to play through an entire campaign using only pistols, because they didn't have that achievement. This clearly made it much harder for him than it should have been, but he persisted. I didn't criticise, having done exactly the same thing some time ago...
So, escapists - how far will you go for achievements (or trophies)? Will you deliberately replay individual scenes from games for area specific achievements? Will you deliberately handicap yourself for obscure trophies? Discuss!

They do once I've played through the game "properly" first time, they often just make the game last that little bit longer and add an extra hint of frustration to the gameplay

If the notifications are on, or I'm in the mood to take up a solid challenge in replay, like the speed runs on Mirror's Edge.

Yes, they add replay value. I play the game once without paying attention to them and then go back and hunt for them.

Depends on the achivements. I can either do it like wooty and play "properly" on the first go through, or I'll try do get it eventually if it's not so far out of the way.

*Headshot 25 enemies over the course of the game*
"Sure. I'll focus specifically on headshotting every 5th or 10th person I meet over the course of this 30 hour game. I'll get it in no time."

*Play the entire game only using Dragon Sword/Falcon Talons/Lunar Staff/etc*
"I beat the game once. I guess I'll start with the Falcon Talons. On normal mode to conserve my sanity. My hard mode run later will be no holds barred"

It does add replayability. I go back to get the weirdest achievment simply for the sake of finding something weird in the game.

I frequently find myself flipping through the achievement lists. I tend to play through a game once for the story, then come back for the achievements that I missed along the way. Trophies, not so much, by my ps3 pretty much just plays blu rays for us these days anyway, which is sad, maybe I should get into the God of War games (thats 3 games to play through, but maybe they are good...)

The only achievements I don't try to get are the ones that require you to kill a huge number of enemies

First time through I like to see the acheivements and get what I can, but generally just play for fun. However, after that I certainly try for whatever trophies I can get.

For instance in Dead Space I decided to kill birds with one stone get two trophies by doing Impossible with only the pistol.
