"American" Accents sound weird to Americans, let alone the rest of the world. Each region seems to have it's own spin on language. I live up near Boston and ever time I get on the 'T' I hear voices ranging from the stereotypical "Southie" ((South Boston)) to just about every thing else.
Yes well in Britain the entire languge and culture changes from region to region. The North and south are like two completely diffent countries

I have a hard time understanding my relatives when they call... a really hard time. and at the LA airport I'm sure the customs guy thought I was daft or something with me just nodding at whatever he was saying and hoping it wasn't important.
That said, tv/movie American for the most part seems normal for the most part. assimilation.

Although it is amusing how you lot go on about Kyle Monogue's quaint Australian accent when to us she sounds like one of you ^.^

That Texas redneck cowboy accent is kinda funny to listen to..
It gives me the impression that they all now how to make moonshine, and drink it constantly.. :p

Besides that, Scottish is the coolest language there is, you can somehow hear that it is english, but still not understand anything they say.. hehe

Yes, but there's nothing wrong with it :)

Question to the americans: Do British accents sound odd to you?
To me, the British accent is definitely the best-sounding accent. I don't know why, but it just sounds awesome.

I always found that Americans sound young. But, I come from the north where everyone speaks like a grizzled miner.

It's all subjective. For example, I'm Australian, and I think my accent is neutral. I'd never thought about it until some US exchange students came for a visit a few years back and I had to repeat myself once or twice "because of the accent".

Ok so it is pretty understandable that it is hard to realize your own accent so I have a question, do american accents sound foreign to non americans? Like do russians think our accent is thick? Or any other nationality.

I know about southern accents, Im from New York so I notice those, and they do sound different and sometimes utterly hilarious considering I am currently residing in the south. But in the end does the average American accent sound funny to non americans?
I have lived in the UK for a long yet i have a american accent (i'm actually canadian)
but the "normal" type

anyway.....

I find UK accents much more annoying then US accents i can't stand newcastle people
the only american accent that annoys me is the SUPER strong texas one the rest are all fine

Any American accent that happens to be very strong. New York springs to mind with the local guys (I think it's Manhattan) I've noticed that a lot of New Yorkers say words like "Coffee" in a particular way, but these guys pronounce it VERY strongly. Such to the point it causes me to raise an eyebrow. CORFEE :)

Yeah, I'm from Ireland, and tbh, some American accents can be very very annoying- think of the film fargo, that was comical because of the accents; I think the most annoying are like Californian accents.

Yes!

American accents jarr me in a way that no other accent does. I have no idea why. I guess because I don't interact with many Amercians, and I spend a lot of time with other nationalities.
I'm a Texan, and my accent doesn't usually stand out...It can't be that I'm surrounded by other texans. But accents that do bother me...

French, Canadian, Australian, Indo-European, English (proper).
Australian accents SHOULD bother you, as we have the most nasal voices ever. Every time someone says they find Australian accents sexy, I lol on the inside and out.
I'm glad I'm not alone. And come to think of it, the only American accent that I think really stands out is that of Tenessee. They're accent's... I just find something infuriating about the way they put certain spins on their talk.

I think Australian accents CAN be sexy, but most of the time...ehh, I can't think of a descriptive word but...I just usually don't think so.

They don't annoy me unless they really strong.

I can't understand them though. My brothers Americans friends dad called our house to tell him that she wasnt with them. I misheard him and thought he said she died which was quite worring as I thought i would have to tell him one of his best friends had just died. I felt like a complete dick later when he told me she was fine.

What does annoy me though is when American people put on an old English accent, mainly in tv shows. I have never met anyone whoe speaks like that in the 17 years I have lived in the UK

The high pitched voice amoung teens is not the norm. What it is is when americans get excited/wound up most of us raise our voice to a higher level. On XBL that is what's happening. I found that this is true in most of the countries I have visited.

Also, in most countries I visited women liked my 'accent'. Except England they did not.

Think about it man. When someone from another country moves to the Americas they are bound to sound odd to some people. It's only logical to say that when we move over there we will sound kind of weird to some.

Yes you all sound like Yanks.
and there's nothing wrong with that.
Well. No its kind of expected, Yanks live in America therfore America is full of Yanks :D
Limeys live in the UK therefore the UK is full of limeys. Got it.
Also followed on from a conversation I had last night, can people tell the TF2 sniper is Australian or do you think he's British. Its the most confused mix of stereotypes I've ever seen in a character.
He has always struck me as Australian, but that is due to the sound of his voice. What stereotypes go into his character that make him confusing?
