Nah. The only assumption I can really make from one's avatar, is about their sense of humor. Or in my case, what they (kind of) look like.

No, it's the avatars that earn my respect. The guy scratching his head after waking up has become a symbol of awesome only because of the awesome posts that he is next to.

I usually don't read names. I read the post and glance at the avatar. See it a lot and I start to remember the name. So I would say it does not really change what I think about them, but then I saw a post by someone who's avatar did effect what I thought, for a short while.

Usually its the names if you ask me.
How so?
Well its usually the... er it's because... I don't know how to say...
Um nicholaxxx could you come over for a demonstration. Thank you, that's a good lad.
What does the xxx part say to you? Is it a need to feel "cool"? To make yourself seem hardcore. Or the name, I kid ye not, Faps. Is it that much of a mystery?
How very shallow of you, I feel sorry for someone who judges me by my name on an internet forum.

Not usually but if you're pretty new and have either no avatar or a Zero Punctuation avatar then I won't take you as seriously. I don't know why, but that's it.
More or less this, although you can also apply Unforgotten Realms and badly drawn cartoonish Avatars.

Usually I try and pay attention to what they're posting though.

Sometimes I do that.
Okay all the time.
But I don't say anything unless I'm right.

Not usually. I wait to see if they have anything worthwhile or intelligent to offer before making any kind of assumptions.

Well I guess I should have said I was comparing names to avatar. Posts are important, the most important for judging people but between avatar and name, a name is far more memorable than an avatar. See I don't have any familiarity with your avatar, or most people really.

No not usually, i find what they have to say more important.
If it's Calvin and Hobbes related, I do see them in a more positive light.
Well you never know, i might be the most uninteresting and shallow person on these forums. :)
In that case..USURPER!Stop muscling in on my turf -_-

I think, the avatar is a very important part of our internet identity, so obviously we assume that it has some kind of connection, mental or physical to the user.

Also, I have a hard time remembering people with either no avatars or highly unoriginal ones (you know which ones I mean).

Hey, if it's of any consolation, I chuckled as soon as I read your name.

Yeah, I'm immature like that.

People like me slightly better if they recognize my avatar.

And otherwise, unless the avatar is really funny, it doesn't affect me much.

On the contrary, I would say that it is the avatars that are more memorable than the names, and I'm sure the vast majority on these forums will agree with me.

Avatars mean nothing to me. Being a very visual person, it only aids me in knowing who posts what without me looking at the name.

Although, I do enjoy the clever looking ones.

No, I use Paper now. The economy is garbage, so you have to cut back wherever you can.
