Do graphics decide what games YOU buy?

Exactly as the title says. Do they? Does the fact that a game has good graphics determine whether you buy it or not?

I bought the game Sacred 2 and my house mate said to me "Why are you playing this? It looks like a PS2 game"

It doesn't bother me if a game doesn't have good graphics, as long as the storyline and gameplay are good. At least if it doesn't take 10 people working for 20 hours just to make a few minutes of gameplay, then there's more of a chance the games these days might be longer :D

I'm a bit saddened that I spend £40 on games that can't make it past the 10 hour mark.

Your thoughts please, guys :D

No,but to a degree...

Don't think I'm some jerk who can't like a good game just because the graphics aren't the best. But if a game has really really horrible graphics(looks like someone puked pixels everywhere),I just can't play it. It'll seriously make me ill. Motion sickness,or some noise...

no, games can be great even with out dated graphics. good graphics are nice to have but i'd rather have a game that sucks me in. i won't go through the list of great games that have outdated graphics, we'd be here all day

No. Actually, most of my favorite games are lacking in graphics like Saints Row 2, Team Fortress 2, and Amored Core: for Answers (not bad, but since mechs are so big it's zoomed out so far from everything that graphics don't come into affect as much. Same with Halo Wars.)

No. The story and gameplay of a game are what I base as my purchasing qualities for a game.

Graphics don't decide if I buy the game or not, but I'm more likely to look at a game with good graphics to see if it looks good before I'd look at the ones with worse graphics.
Good graphics is a nice thing to have though.

Too a degree, I don't think there's any excuse for a new game to come out on PC looking like poo, to me it says that the dev was too lazy or cheap to fork out to use the UT3 or source engine (I mean let's face it, it really doesn't take much to make a game look decent these days).

That said, I love playing older games and I really like older art styles, it really depends on what you (or in this case I) take as "bad".

It really does effect how much I enjoy the game but not very much, I look at quality and replay value more.

I'd like to think not, although sometimes I'll admit that awesome visuals can influence my purchase of a game. Or if a game is on multiple platforms, I might buy whichever version has the shortest load times and best graphics.

I care more about the gameplay and story, though. I'll overlook a lot of flaws if at least one of those is really great.

I grew up with 3D games, so a game needs to be 3D in order to keep my attention for more than one sitting. I know it's bad, but it's true for me.

it's never a deciding factor, but it is a "factor" I suppose.

Sometimes..just sometimes the graphics can show you the production value of a game and you can tell if it's crap right away or not. Sometimes.

I wouldnt say so, I mean I recently bought Persona 4, and while the art style is pleasing to look at, the graphics arent exactly stellar for a ps2 game. I look more for story and longevity than graphics.
