I live in pasadena, california (problem #1) and im currently going to college right now, and in one of my classes my teacher asked us why wouldn't people move to california. I tried to make a joke but at the same time make a point by saying "700k for a 2 bedroom house, no thanks" and NO ONE understood what i had said, instead looking at me with a funny look and asked what was i talking about. That is the straw that broke the camels back for my patience with people today, my gf said however it gets to me because i let it get to me but on the other hand it is pretty stupid that even a teacher with a PHD didnt know what i was talking about or even make an attempt to guess. So what im trying to say is the subject topic, do i have an anger problem or just an idiot problem?
Idiot problem clearly.
I live in the UK & know what you're on about. Just because they have a PHD or go to college, unfortunately, doesn't mean they're bright or socially normal.
Gets to me too that the average person's an idiot, thats why I have a smart circle of mates :p
do you have any openings in that circle by chance?

You sure your in the right class...I would have laughed or at the least smiled...I suppose intelligence is going down except for people on the escapist.

They just didn't understand.
They probably haven't lived anywhere else in the U.S. to get it.
Or they could all be rich and money doesn't mean anything to them, or their parents probably paid for everything turning them into spoiled brats.

You could have said a shit load of forest fires instead

Two possibilities, the way I see it.

1- If your class was anything like a few of mine, the idea is to not speak, let the instructor finish his stupid lecture, and leave. Jokes/questions/comments/concerns just slow everything down in that type of class, so you may have gotten a silent "oh just shut the hell up" from everyone in the room. If this is the case, you should not only not let the reaction get to you, but should apologize by staying silent in future classes.
Definitely this, and it just wasn't funny.

I find it irritating to have to reiterate things i've said because people didn't get it the first time around, so i've pretty much just given up on it. Probably the reason I spend all my time on the Internet, because I know there'll be someone here who gets a joke I tell, or at least doesn't get confused by my accent.
