I'm a college (American) football fan myself. I like it because you ge to see athletes just as they hit the big time but just before they become overpayed jerks. In the end, I've taken a liking to it over the years.

Also, Gig Em Aggies.

Eagles fans tend to be pretty nutty from what I've gleaned from football.

IDK, my sister knows more about football than I do. She started getting into it via sports betting and she likes the math behind it.

Now granted, playing traditional sports isn't my favorite thing to do, either, but I've had a heck of a lot of fun over the years playing the occasional pickup game. The most fun I've had watching sports has involved either drinking with roommates while doing so, or watching the commercials/half time show during the Superbowl.
I think playing sports for me stopped being fun sometime around middle school. I've always been small, and kinda clumsy, but around middle school my athletic ability really tapered off.
I've /never/ been particularly athletic, just able to have fun. Granted, I think the last pick up game of anything resembling a traditional sport I played was a round of ultimate frisbee back in high school (I may actually have to go back to middle school to come up with a football game) but still, it can be fun. Then again unathletic as I may be, I'm a pretty big guy, with average height and above average shoulder width, and that at least counts for something. Above average gut size, too, but I'm working on that :p

No, we hate sports. All of them. Ever. >.> <.<

What are you looking at?
How are the gunners doing this year with Podolski but lost Van Persie?
Let's just say that if I were the sort of person who drank, I'd be an alcoholic this season.

I really don't care about sports. And it's not because of a lack of exposure. My dad is a huge sports nut and took me to games all the time growing up, had me on a kid's soccer team, etc. And I don't miss those days AT ALL.

But even going to other competitive things, I like playing Super Smash Bros and going to tournaments, but when I lose in the tournament I also lose interest in what's going on. I like playing, not observing.

Maybe it has something to do with puberty that puts people off of playing sports for fun. IDK, there was some change after elementary school, where in the 5th grade you could count on a soccer game or kickball game happening during recess happening at least weekly during the fall/spring. Soon as sixth grade hit that pretty much stopped entirely.

I do remember owning everyone during presidential fitness thingy on pullups. I did like eight of those shits and most guys couldn't get past 2.

I've never understood the aversion to sports within the nerd/geek subculture. I mean I see it as just another thing to geek out with. I love looking at the stats of my favorite baseball players, and comparing them to what ever team they happen to be playing. I love looking at the different possible trades the teams I support might be able to do, and hypothisise which would be more beneficial.

I personally enjoy [American] Football, baseball, wrestling (real wrestling, none of that fake shit), and hockey. My teams are the Mariners, and the Seahawks, and I'm trying to decide on a hockey team. I like Vancouver, in part because geographically, they are the closest, but they have been quite good the last few years, and suddenly becoming a fan would seem like I was bandwagoning them.

Also, MMA and hockey are both mainstream, so don't act like you're somehow different than everyone else.
Well, for one point. I'd disagree with you about pro wrestling, namely because of things like this:
That's just me. I may not enjoy North American Football or Baseball, but I certainly wouldn't call them shit, because I can respect the athleticism that goes into them. Even if I disagree with the politics of football, or the sort of racketeering that's par for the course in baseball/boxing.

I'm a massive nerd. I absolutely love Aussie Rules (the mainstream winter sport in the country), cricket (the mainstream summer sport in the country) and soccer (the mainstream sport in general across the globe). Your hypothesis is disproved.

Yeah, you know what, that doesn't really hurt, unless you actually fuck up. 95% of that shit doesn't actually hurt, nor does it take any great feat of strength to pull off. Its a fucking soap opera with stage fighting, get over it.

if you mean sports in traditional sense (not gmae tournamebnts and stuff) then no. i cant claim i like them. I do enjoy playing football (the real football, not the american idiociy) and volleyball myself and i sometime watch car racing, but i would never go around "hey how about team x" in my life. yes i know im that 0.1% of the population that think hitting the ball with a head so hard you get a concusion is not worth a point.

I don't know, seems like quite a few dislike them on here but that's not exactly surprising. I personally absolutely love them, especially football. Fuck the Saints.

I am not an avid follower of sports but do enjoy watching them every now and then and have favourite teams that I 'follow'. Being Australian, compared to most of us, I dislike with great passion our own sports being AFL and cricket. I find myself enjoying American football, baseball, Football (English football, the real football, not the Australian rules football that gets football in my backwards country), MMA, basketball.

All but one person I know likes sports, playing or watching them. I was forever deemed 'unfit' in school PE lessons because I didn't enjoy hockey and couldn't hit the ball with a tennis racket, but I absolutely love kayaking and swimming (which we did not do at school) and abseiling and rock climbing. I think there are quite a lot of people out there like me, who failed miserably at school sports and decided they just didn't enjoy sports. Access to multiple types of sport breeds sporty people, I think.

Watching sports is a different matter, sometimes they can be mind numbingly boring and if you catch a couple of boring games you're not going to want to watch more. Football (soccer) is the prime example of this, too many matches wherein nothing happens for 90+ minutes and you're going to hate the mention of the word. Murderball (wheelchair rugby) however, watch a few games of that and tell me blood sports are only popular in dystopian societies. :D

I'm a nerd.

I love Sports. Mainstream (Both codes of Rugby) and minority (American Football, Ice Hockey).

Play Rugby and Ice Hockey, and generally get stuck in when there's a kick around (Association Football) going on, and otherwise enjoy outdoor activities.

Love watching them too, in no particular order lets go: Glasgow Warriors, Castleford Tigers, Leeds Carnegie, Sheffield Steelers, Detroit Red Wings, Stanford Cardinal, and the San Francisco 49ers. Plus in internationals: Scotland, or whoever is playing against England.

I'm not a very good nerd.

On the other hand, my Stark deck in the Game of Thrones card game hasn't lost since I cut out the dead weight like Jojen Reed and Bran Stark, and my Greyjoys are just filthy.

Well I live in the UK but adamantly follow NFL, so that's slightly esoteric.

Most UK mainstream sports I can happily sit down and watch a game but I'll leave it behind when I get up to go do something else.

I quite like sports on a mess-around level, don't tend to get too serious when playing.

Speaking as a somewhat unconventional nerd, I hate any sport involving balls or teams. I like gymnastics, track, boxing, wrestling, biking, skating, archery, one man rowing, etc. Primarily I like sports whose nouns are also verbs or those you "do" instead of those that you "play".

I don't generally watch sports though. If I do, it's probably gonna be boxing or MMA.

I think its different for everyone (as most things are). For me, my nerdiness and my dislike of sports kind of go hand in hand. Like, at a young age, I did not enjoy sports when I played them. Also at a young age, I enjoyed watching Star Wars and playing video games. So as I grew older and started being able to say, "no dad, I don't want to be on the baseball team this year, I want to learn Flash animation" I became nerdier and nerdier.

I do enjoy watching sports, on TV or in real life, and even playing occasionally now that I'm older. But I certainly am not an athlete, am not competitive, and would prefer and have always preferred nerdy activities to athletic ones.

Ya, I'm a nerd and I pretty much can't stand sports. Just gets super tedious and boring for some reason. I mean it's always the same old thing, a bunch of people I don't know or care about throwing or kicking a ball around a field for 4 hours.
