I thought it was worth the price tag, no question. I enjoyed it even more than the three good New Vegas DLC offerings (Dead Money was the odd one out, if you hadn't guessed) and that's saying something. Even ignoring the actual Dawnguard quest line, the crossbows, Serana and the beast form perk tree spiced up normal gameplay a great deal and made it a must-buy.

Adding to the chorus: I also thought imahobbit4062 was the one who came off as a jerk. The OP was fine if you're able to rub two brain cells together enough to realize that he was posting an opinion/review and not a dictatorial imperative.

The price seems a little steep for me, at present. I'm sick and tired of vampires in anything and don't have a hard-on for crossbows, so I see little reason to invest $20 in Dawnguard. I'd rather have more new landscapes to explore.

Any real Skyrim fan will decide whether or not they like the DLC on its own merits, rather than blindly following what you say a "true fan" should do.

Good job OT woodaba and imahobbit4062. You've turned an interesting thread into something I have no desire to follow thanks to your combat between each other.

Well, it ended a while ago, so...yeah.

In my opinion it's worth it solely because Bethesda actually managed to make a character that is more than just a quest/reward dispenser, but rather a three-dimensional personality with her own distinct back-story who faces challenges that you can both understand and care about.

In a Bethesda game (for all there other positives, of which there are many don't get me wrong) that really is unprecedented. Although, it is slightly annoying that the first character in the whole of Skyrim that my Redguard Dragonborn has genuinely grown fond of isn't actually available to marry. Why?

I joined the forum just today specifically for the "imahobbit4062" comments. Is he really that thick? "I'm tired of these threads. I'll do what I want with my money." Apparently this guy (or gal) is entitled enough to think you were specifically talking STRIGHT TO THEM. *shakes his head* ANYTHING seen in a forum like this should be taken as opinion. It's just the inherent nature of forums! Get off your high horse dude, and if you see a thread that you're obviously not gonna like.... DON'T READ IT!

Woodaba, Thank you! I'm a fan of Skyrim, but on a budget. So I've been debating about getting dawnguard when it comes out for PC. People like me depend on threads like this in order to use their money wisely. Regardless of whether or not I'll like Dawnguard more, less, or equally so as you do, thank you for posting your critique of it. I'll be using your info, along with others that I read, to make an informed choice about where to put my money.

(Also... at no point, even in the title, do you sound dickish. How can someone even read a title and think "yea, this guy is a dick," unless the title literally says, "Hahaha! I'm better than you!")
Welcome to the forums! Enjoy your stay.

And I'm glad I could be of service.

So, what you're saying is is... that Dawnguard could very well be the Bethesda equivalent of the dark master of overdone recycling, the absolutely unacceptable, poop-covered Dragon Age II?

OK. I planned on tripping Skyrim Dawnguard balls this weekend, I guess I'll have to wait a bit, until I'm more ready to handle frustration.

Are you, perchance, a Troll wearing a Hobbit skin?

I'm one of those weirdos who liked Dragon Age II, yeah, it REALLY needed at least another 6 months of development, but the story was much more interesting than Origins' "THE DRAGON IS BAD GO KILL IT.", instead being asking questions like "Do the ends justify the means?" or "Is a Belief system inherently contrary to our own nessecarilly evil?" I dunno, I just thought the story was a lot more mature and interesting. Pity the characters cannot touch Origin's cast, with the best being Varric and Merril, with the worst being Fenris and Isabella.

Thanks for your thoughts, I have decided I am going to wait until all *probably 5* DLC come out and then buy the "Game of the Year" Edition when it comes down in price. :)

It is never worth it to buy shit like that when it comes out, always wait.

I bought dawnguard the minute it was available. The story is thoroughly enjoyable and the content well worth the measly 20 dollars I dropped on it.

The dawnguard armor is pretty nice and the enhanced crossbow is much better than any bow except a legendary dragonbone bow. Serana is an interesting character, and her AI is pretty amusing.

Also, I felt like it was a pretty cut and dry choice when you're brought before Harkon and his family is gathered around chowing down on human corpses spread out on the hall's dining tables. Also, he called my PC's lycanthropy 'filth'. Wasn't hard to decide who to join.

The price.
Alright... $20 for a 20 hour addon?

People seem to pay $60 for a 5 hour GAME.

I don't see the problem.
And if that 20 hours is walking the same crap I've already spent countless hours doing, why is it worth it?

OT: Yeah I was about to buy it, saw the price tag and said fuck-to-the-no, I was expecting maybe a $10-15 expansion, around £5-7, they want double that? Nope. I can get new weapons, armours and shouts from mods. Never liked the werewolves. Mods can change appearance, race etc, mods add new locations. The /only/ interesting thing is the vampire lords, and even then they seem like they might provide maybe 4-5 hours of fun before I got bored.

Edit: Wrong quote, derp derp, fixed.

Hmm, well 15x2=/=20. Just hope you know.

You have to take into fact other Platforms. Xbox doesn't have mods and a lot of console-specific players don't know about nor understand mods.

I don't really recall doing anything I've done before in vanilla. If doing a story/quest-line happens to require you WALKING past places you've been to is really that bad then why the hell are you playing an RPG...

EDIT: You probably didn't see my other post saying how millions of people (including PC players) seem to be fine with paying $60 for a game with 5-10 hours of actual single-player.

Now kids, play nice...

Seriously though, in regard to Woodaba, you do sound like the guy standing on a soapbox with a megaphone shouting, "My opinion is valid, because my volume is louder."

imahobbit shouldn't have said anything as he comes across as slightly pretentious, but his point is valid.

And I do believe there is a review forum which would've made the OP seem less ... backlashy?
