Lucky!! I'm tall and have no reflexes, so things just hit me in the head and bounce merrily away while I writhe in agony on the floor. Can I borrows the reflexmobile?
Totally thinking Colour is doing a bit from Guardians of the Galaxy there.

You probably know this. I might be a git now.
I've heard of Guardians of the Galaxy but I have no clue what it is, so don't feel git-ted. ;) If that's what she was doing, then chalk it up as another example of something smacking me upside the head while everyone laughs at me for not getting it. lol

(See? I told you my reflexes were non-existent!)

So much picture will I give.

And I'm thinking you're six foot, Bunny. Am I right?

Yeah, I can admit I'm biased.

Look, of course being new to the site doesn't mean your opinions mean less, but I look at it the other way: If someone can have 10000 posts and not have been banhammered to oblivion, they're probably pretty OK people. More than that, they've got a lot to say.

This doesn't mean I won't read posts by newbies, but if I catch someone with a huge post count disagreeing with me, I'm more likely to sit back and actually think about what they're saying.

Alrighty then... color me schooled! :D That's definitely a new one to me.

A quarter of an inch shy, yes. But I also like to wear heels and 4" wedges that put me way over the top. Because fuck genetics, I'll wear what I want!

And guys like me who've been around for more than five years but just reply to certain topics selectively? What do you think about them?

Oddly enough its more the generic 'no face' avatar that'll make me more likely skip over a post than anything like join date or post count, (though the second can come into play as well).

I find that people don't so much as dismiss users with small post counts as they will immediately support someone with a massive post count. So someone with 10,000 posts can be a massive dick/*****/unisex arsehole to someone smaller and no one will crush them nor will they be reported, yet if a smaller user tries the same thing, expect the banhammer avatar soon.

And if you are a small time user who disagrees with certain prolific and vocal users who are themselves very aggressive, it is better 9/10 not to respond because they won't debate you; they'll beat you down and insult you.

I remember perhaps one time I have seen a prolific and aggressive member been banned... and that user is now back and had a massive following with people trying to get that poster back.

I think they're clever and handsome and brilliant and handsome, because that's me in a couple of months

I dunno, you're not wrong- it's a balancing act between post count and join date. I did recognise it as a bias, to be fair.

Ehh, I've been reading the escapist for the last five years. When I had something to say I made an account. When I thought I could contribute something I wrote a post. I guess by my post count I'd still be considered kind of a forum newbie. But I've never been treated badly because of that. I have to say I have a certain level of respect for the old guard. As someone else pointed up above if they've been around that long and been that vocal then clearly what they're saying is, at the very least, not terrible.

Generally though if I see someone who's joined in the last month and is spouting gamer gate crap I tend to ignore them, did 4chan's more vitriolic board get shut down or something? (I don't wanna generalize 4chan here, mostly harmless message board that it is, kinda like how tumblr is literally just a free blogging platform)

Anyway what's your opinions on real life pictures as avatars? More respect? Less? No effect?
Hmmm, I should probably update mine, I just keep getting better looking all the time.

I actually received more than a few PMs back in the day when I had some crazier Kyary avatars, though nobody has questioned me since I settled on this one.

It's not weird enough, evidently.
Maybe people are just distracted by your new one? Its memorable though.

OT - under 100 can often indicate a throw away account however I always read the post then if it seems strange or dumb look at the count + join date to see if its a new member or a veteran.

I think I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I discriminated against people with a low post count. I usually scroll through most topics I'm interested in and randomly pick posts to read. Post count doesn't matter to me in the slightest. Some people are just lurkers that rarely feel like adding things that were already said, myself included. Mostly because we're aware that bias towards people with low post counts exists. :p

I'd say it's half true for me. I generally won't even look at the post count before I'm done reading the OP, so if it's good, I won't care that they're new by the time I notice, but I see that a majority of bad threads (generic questions that have been asked dozens of times before [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.860157-Worst-gaming-sequels], dumb rants with no discussion value [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.860090-Did-Jim-Sterling-already-forget-this-pretty-extremist-thing-hes-said], new threads on stuff that's being discussed in other threads [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.860119-Journalistic-Independence-in-Games-Journalism], threads in the wrong forum section [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.860014-Whats-the-point-off-owning-blu-rays-or-dvds], etc.) are written by new or low-post count people, because regulars know not to pull that shit.

Yes, I've experienced this personally.

Back when I had less than 1000 posts, people would often skip over my posts, and quote someone else with a much larger post count, even though that person was saying pretty much the same thing I was, and my post appeared in the thread above theirs.

Now that I have over 1000 posts, I've noticed a marked increase in the amount I get quoted, regardless of what it is I'm saying.

I agree.

From moderation, to general user attitudes, to 'rallying around' and 'taking sides', - these things always seem to disproportionately favor those with massive post counts.

Honestly I don't see too many of them, but an avatar is an avatar. I don't respect you more or less than any other avatar (as long as it is an avatar, go away no faced baseball cap wearing white guy). I also have a slight mistrust of people with an anime "waifu" for an avatar, but I always make sure I don't be prejudice or anything from that. Could just be that it's a character they genuinely enjoy, nothing more and has no reflection of what they're like as a person.

As for how you look, I can't comment. I recently made the mistake of pressing the red button, and now everything is Bieber. I'm just surprised it took me this long to actually click it.

No, I don't ignore forum users with less time that me. That's rude!
I wrote a script that blocks forum users with a lower post count than me. It works well, because I can only see the sexiest users now. I don't play with filthy casuals.

Post count means very little to me. Join date is more important in my eyes, especially in light of recent events. I find myself more dismissive of new user who have only joined in the last couple of weeks and more so if they have an abnormally high number of posts, since that usually indicates someone who is: A) Being Class-A shit disturber, B) Only here for the recent Gamersgate nonsense or C) All of the above.

I know this is probably hyperbole, but if that's true, just how many people are there left from those ancient times? I don't see a huge number of people who've been here longer than me, and you've got nearly 2 years on me.

Nah, I don't.

I dismiss people based purely on the content of their posts.

:D
My phone's zoom on this site oftens has me just scrolled to the right so I can see the whole post without moving the screen. Ends up blocking the name and avatar so often I do only read/judge content, ocassionally switching to the left to see who said things.

It's left me in the awkward position of being "YOU STUPID BOORISH... Oh hi JoJo![footnote]I don't think it's exactly happened to him in particular, but you understand. It was a friend.[/footnote]

It's only like that on my phone... On my Ipad I tend to discriminate length and based on where you posted. Look #54, I'm sure your post is great and all, but I've already read like 30 other paragraph posts. I'm sorry I just can't. It's not you it's me.
