Remember, Jazz was considered too provocative and sinful, so it must've been the "Devil's Music".
My english teacher put it best, but I can't quite remember how.

I've never heard anyone simply regard to it as Satian music, but I have (numerous times) had to convince people why it wasn't music that revolved around devil-worship.

As much as I dislike the genre itself, there is a HUGE and POPULAR christian metal that you could point toward, if you ever need evidence to convince someone.

over 9000 people call it SUPERSATIAN music!!! I know I do! AND SO SHOULD YOU!

Everyone longs for the traditions of their youth. When you hear the horror that your children listen to, you'll yearn for your thrash death metal as well.

Yes, it is still called bad, and, given that a lot of the songs talk about Satan, it is a bit satanic. That is not to say it is evil, given that most ACTUAL satanists are just glorified atheists that enjoy indulgence.

yep, my grandmother. she also thinks D&D, and therefore all the stuff in western RPGs that i play, are demonic and evil as well.

while still socially backwards, at least there have been some actual satanic themes in some metal performers, so there is some, if very little, merit to that opinion.

Mortal Treason - christian based metal band. Everyones theory is now incorrect about everything, ever.
Agreed, there are a lot of metalcore/hardcore bands that are christian too...

personal favorite of mine is The Devil Wears Prada

PRAISE THE LORD!

but there are alot more, like Attack Attack! (but they kinda suck)
then we've got Underoath
then theres Emery which started off christian
and MANY MORE! (cant think of them all right now :/)

The great part is that people have called the christian metal I listen to SATAN's music, and I just let them know it's a christian band and crank it! :D

Also, I'm not christian I just love the music and lyrics on an intellectual level (yes, there is some meaning behind their lyrics besides praising god and what-not)

I'm sure a few do. They're probably the same ones who think Harry Potter and the Golden Compass are products of the devil meant to corrupt our children.
I can see (but not agree with) the point about Harry Potter. Yeah, it's non-Christian, and deals with wizards and magic and such. But most people who disagree with it are the ones who can't differentiate fiction from reality.
On the other hand, Golden Compass... It's like Narnia meets Harry Potter, but it's just bad... Not like evil... Just poorly-done. (Can you tell I'm not a fan?)

my mom is a born again christian and her and her insane friend think all rock is written after the artist sells their soul. I argued this with "Spirit in the sky" by Norman Greenbaum. if you don't know the song has the lyric
"Prepare yourself you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky"
and she actually argued that and I quote "It doesn't say which spirit he means and there are bound to be satanists named Jesus"
and that is why I'm agnostic.
There are idiots in every demographic. Don't judge any group of people by the stupidest members of it. Otherwise, someone will find a stupid person in a group you're a member of and judge the whole group, including you, as being stupid, and you would not like that.

[sarcasm]Actually, I'll go do that... Wait here while I find some stupid agnostics to put down.[/sarcasm]

Seriously, though. Have her listen to "The Houseplant Song" that I linked to below. If she still keeps her views after that, then, she's just a moron.

I see, but have you read any other of C.S. Lewis's works? The Screwtape Letters and the Great Divorce are very thought provoking.
I have not, no. I didn't realize he had written anything else. I'll go check those out at some point, thanks ^_^
It's kind of sad that C.S. Lewis' only foray into children's books is what he's most famous for. The Screwtape Letters is just awesome, and all of his Biblical commentaries, such as Mere Christianity and The Abolition of Man, are well worth reading.
Many people don't know that he was good friends with J.R.R. Tolkien and they often read each other's works in early drafts and made suggestions for revisions. Lewis helped with LotR and Tolkien helped with Narnia. Something to think about.

Some fundamentalist Christians still think ANY form of rock music is evil, as though a combination of sounds from vibrating strings somehow has any bearing on morality. I consider myself a Christian and I listen to the most extreme music known to man. So go figure.
I know people like that, and when I tell them about Christian Rock, they're like, "That's not real Christian music..."
Of course, these are the same people who will only listen to music composed before 1930. They won't even listen to new hymns.

If you've never heard "The Houseplant Song" by Audio Adrenaline, go listen to it.

Then, have anyone who still believes Rock music is evil listen to it, too.

I see where you're coming from but I have to disagree on some things. Not trying to argue, just stating my personal opinion.

I think Potter is as Christian as Narnia is really. Well, Narnia is a biblical allegory and Potter isn't, but they are both concerned with very Christan values, and they both have Christian authors, so both equally Christian. And talking animals are just as fictitious as wizardry is. Again, this is just what I see happening, I can see how this could be argued other ways.

The other thing is, I'm a HUGE fan of Pullman's works, The Golden Compass and such. I love his style, I love his characters, I love his imagery, I love a lot of it. On the other hand, it's pretty fucking evil, from a Christan standpoint. Considering the entire storyline concerns the protagonists in their quest to KILL GOD (not in an allegorical way, mind, but in a completely literal sense). I would imagine that could be taken as an evil book, Potter's `witchcraft' looks pretty damn tame in comparison ^_^

EDIT:
Sorry, forgot to get to my point lol.
But most people who disagree with [Potter] are the ones who can't differentiate fiction from reality.
Yeah well the idea that any kind of music is evil is a pretty fictitious concept if you ask me. The fact that they actually believe that means that they can't differentiate fiction to reality. So wouldn't it be the same people?

There are certainly metal bands out there that embrace a profoundly anti-religious or pro-occult position either out of sincerity or as part of their "shtick" (large swathes of Black Metal spring to mind), but the notion that Metal is automatically about/inspired by Satan? Well that's just silly, and suggesting that is a great way to look stupid.

Satan music, maybe. Not so much Satian i think.

YES, people still call it satan music... My friends, for example, that listen to nothing but Cristina Agulera and Fifty Cent or whatever their names are, can't be bothered to check. Of course, when said negative comment is coming from people with that kind of taste in music, it's not so much rude towards my taste as it is a pathetic attempt to lift their own poor taste out of the mud ^^.

Well, as long as some bands dont deny it, then why not call them satanic bands??
