I don't call it Satanist, I call it "a bunch of dropouts screaming their guts out and trying to prove they have bigger balls than everybody else." Oh look! I can fake a knife wound! I'm awesome in screamo circles now!

(hint, edit your post to spell it right or you'll get alot of comments about non exsiting satian music.
Only from pedantic arseholes, let's be honest. :)
Also you forgot to close your brackets. Also, 'a lot' is two words. Also, it's spelt 'existing'.
Thats true. Sorry, my keyboard is kinda old and keys dont like to cluick sometimes.
lol i dont know if that was a joke or not, but either way, thank you so much. :)

but nah, only the surviving few of the old guard (like some of my relatives :/ ) still bang on about that. like their parents banged on about elvis and like their grandparents banged on about makeout scenes in movies lasting longer than five seconds.
i dont no why, either. maybe their teen turned out a tad rebellious (GASP! no way!) and they would rather blame it on something out of their control than their parenting techniques (as if teen body chemistry isnt out-of-their-control enough). maybe its just part of our vestigial tribal instinct to avoid whatever is forgein.

i dont know, but whatever it is, its stupid, and even if metal isnt the target it once was, this definately isnt that last time we will see this kind of behavior.

If you've never heard "The Houseplant Song" by Audio Adrenaline, go listen to it.
The Houseplant Song [http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8071753/AudioAdrenaline-TheHouseplantSong.mp3]
Then, have anyone who still believes Rock music is evil listen to it, too.
lol wow. thank YOU! gah, i dont think ive heard that song since...well, for almost as long as ive been an athiest.

and maybe i was a bit hastey, or just going on wishful thinking, when i made that last post. now that i think about it, there are still some idiots like that, but theyre a bit harder to come by now.

lol as for the "not real christian music" arguement, it actually reminds me of a convo i had with my dad one time about christian metal (i was christian at the time, many years ago). but he quoted some verse about how praise to god should be lovely to the ear or something.

i thought it was hilarious that he completely overlooked the fact that music is completely subjective, and while we could talk about what constitutes tasteless music or compare actual technical abilities and talents, the bottom line is: if you like it listen to it; if not, dont. yeah, if theres a god, he/she/it has to listen to ALL of it, but as long as the artists' hearts are in the right place, he could probably care less about genre. it has to beat waiting centuries for those idiots hitting rocks with sticks to invent drums and woodwinds.

but back on audio adrenaline, i have to respect them not just for being cool, level-headed guys, but for actually sticking to their genre through their success. even as an athiest, it sucks seeing people supporting a band just for them to stab their original fan-base in the back by denouncing god and making mainstream music with little or no connection to christianity. im looking at you, evanesence and creed.

but if there is an arguement that god is real, it might be them. how do you like dwindling sales-figures served by a vengeful god, you worthless sellouts? XD

I think Potter is as Christian as Narnia is really. Well, Narnia is a biblical allegory and Potter isn't, but they are both concerned with very Christan values, and they both have Christian authors, so both equally Christian. And talking animals are just as fictitious as wizardry is. Again, this is just what I see happening, I can see how this could be argued other ways.
We could debate whether J.K. Rowling is Christian or not, but I'm not going to right now.
The main thing is that:
1. I haven't read any Harry Potter books myself. I'd like to some day, though.
2. I've only watched bits and pieces of the movies.
3. I know Harry Potter mainly from reading stuff online and from friends who are die-hard Pot-heads. Just through osmosis from them, I could give you the run-down of the plot from every book.

But most people who disagree with [Potter] are the ones who can't differentiate fiction from reality.
Yeah well the idea that any kind of music is evil is a pretty fictitious concept if you ask me. The fact that they actually believe that means that they can't differentiate fiction to reality. So wouldn't it be the same people?
Pretty much. I'm not going to say anything is wrong with reading Harry Potter, because it's fiction. Waving a wand around and saying "Avada Kedavra" isn't going to actually kill anyone. Actually, I'd like to see someone try, just so I could laugh at them.
Music is just a tool, just like a knife or the Internet. The music itself is neutral. Only the way you use it really defines its morality.
To me, what makes the music "Christian" or not is the lyrics. You have lyrics praising Jesus? Christian Rock. You have secular lyrics? Regular Rock.
This brings me to another point I've always wondered: why is it there only seem to be two types of music lyrics out there? You hear of Rock and Christian Rock, Rap and Christian Rap, Punk and Christian Punk, etc. Why don't you ever hear of Buddhist Rock, or Jewish Punk, or Muslim Rap? Aren't people of those and other faiths interested in contemporary music?

I've got to respect them, not only for sticking to it through their success, but also through their hardship. Even though "Audio Adrenaline" has been gone since 2007, they've continued with "Audio Unplugged" for a bit. I went to one of those and it was quite insightful to hear about the lead singer, Mark Stuart, and how he had to go through not only a divorce, but also through the fact that he in essence blew out his voice through singing so much. He was having vocal trouble starting in 2005 and in 2006, his doctor laid down the gauntlet: "You can do one more tour, and that's it. Anything more, and you won't be able to talk, much less sing." That must have been hard to hear, since singing was his life and love.

Another band with similar success is Jars of Clay. Several of their songs have made hits on the mainstream circuit, but that's never stopped their conviction.

Want to look at a true sellout? Look at freaking Katy Perry. She even changed her name to sell out to the mainstream crowd. Check out her first CD [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katy_Hudson_(album)].

I'm not sure? I haven't heard as big of many people going nuts over it lately.

Maybe it is because video games are the new Satan to people now.

Yes, I went to a school (Obviously religious) that think when you listen to metal, Satan tries to steal your soul.
But unlike them, im not a weak minded fool.

my mom is a born again christian and her and her insane friend think all rock is written after the artist sells their soul. I argued this with "Spirit in the sky" by Norman Greenbaum. if you don't know the song has the lyric
"Prepare yourself you know it's a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you
To the spirit in the sky"
and she actually argued that and I quote "It doesn't say which spirit he means and there are bound to be satanists named Jesus"
and that is why I'm agnostic.
Bad example. Norman Greenbaum is a jew who wrote that song because he knew it would be popular with no religious motive behind it.

I would have made the argument there's a sub-genre of rock called "christian rock".
ya she thinks christan rock is also satanic and used to trick Christians into listening to evil music (sort of a false prophet thing)
but the main reason I abandoned organized religion was because after I heard some of the flawed teachings that they believed (a few plot holes in the history as well as misinterpreting passages and using them as excuses to hate gays and any non-christians) I just switched to a belief of treating everyone as an equal and never forcing my beliefs on others.

Wow. I mean...wow. If Rob Halford was dead, he'd be spinning in his grave right now. I thought Christian Rock'n'roll was bad, but that...that was just something else.

I gotta go lie down.

Ok this thread needs more Black Metal to counter the christian stuff...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O01gxYeS_3c

OT: alot of people do for an excuse as to why they dont like the genre, just like how people that dont like video games need a reason to dislike them... little do they no however that we would respect them more if they just said they disliked it

On the other hand, Golden Compass... It's like Narnia meets Harry Potter, but it's just bad... Not like evil... Just poorly-done. (Can you tell I'm not a fan?)
I take it you're basing this on the film, and not the books?

Aside from the fact that the books don't suck, much unlike the film, the later books get into areas that would be decidedly non christian; a major part of the third book involves some of the heroes trying to kill God.

OT: If someone says the music I listen to is Devil music I'll tell them they've found out my secret, and unfortunately I now have to use them in my blood ritual.

Oh man, that story is weird dude. I guess I always just took for granted not having parents who are religious fanatics.
I introduced my mom to Opeth, and she loves it.

Are there people who still refer to metal as satanic? Probably, but it's best to ignore them and let them fret over pointless crap they made up in their heads.

I'm sure a few do. They're probably the same ones who think Harry Potter and the Golden Compass are products of the devil meant to corrupt our children.
What does that have to do with Satian?
