(Just checked up, there are 20+ Muslim characters in the comic books, but Dust is possibly the most famous. He's also a Sunni Muslim.)
I'm faaaaairly certain that Dust is a woman ;)

As for white American Males selling? Hell, it's the same in England. Our top "super hero" is Judge Dredd, and he's white American.

Captain America pisses me off, though, mainly because Captain Britan seems like such an ineffectual fuckwit next to him. This is clearly because he's not American...

Why do people need to complain about racism ALL THE TIME, it actually annoys me so much.

What about Blade?
Or Storm from the X-Men, I see what he means though, those are the only ones I can really think of.
Ultimate Nick Fury is the only other one I can think of.

Maybe they should have given roles more likely to succeed to minority super heroes. One of the things that makes me mad is the only time we see intentional diversity is when we make African American characters. What about Hispanics, Asians, Pacific Islanders, Arabs, Native Americans, and that's just race. What about religion and sexual orientation? People will ***** and moan until the creators "throw a black character in" and then be perfectly fine. How many games/movies have a "wise-cracking black sidekick"? The whole system needs adjustment.

But back to the main point: Do Racism and Comic Books go hand in hand? Well, no. Not hand in hand. It does seem a little prejudgist that most comic book heroes are Caucasian males who are presumed straight. Hand in hand implies they go together. Comic books might seem prejudgist, but it doesn't give anything back to Racism. Hand in hand would be like blood and gore. Where you see one, the other is sure to follow.

The second was Nick Fury in his cameo appearences in the recent marvel flicks. That character was changed because they had Samuel L Jackson in mind when the role was created.
Actually it's 'cuz there using the Ultimate Universe Nick Fury, where he's black from its inception ^_^

Also, Luke Cage would like a word with you, dawgs.

SWEET CHRISTMAS

I think that just means that Marvel has been slacking in making some new super heroes.

I mean all the heroes you hold dear are all classics and made a long ass time ago. And back then it was all about the all American family. I just hope this realization doesn't motivate the company to make some half-assed multi-cultural league of pussies.

They just need some newer AAA super heroes. Which would probably just be incidentally multi-cultural.

Oh yes cause Black Panther and X-Men dont exist yet but Disney will bring their creation.
That last part really bothered me, but that was the Escapist writer...

DC is more limited than Marvel in ethnicity. Superman is an alien...but a white male AMERICAN alien. DC has...a later black Green Lantern. Marvel has Black Panther, Storm, and Luke Cage. Thats just black people.

Well I'm a white boy but Spawn (although not a marvel character) at least the original Al Simmons Spawn was black and he's by far my favorite. There are quite a few issues that deal with racism (there are some about child abuse and all kinds of other moral questions too). Spawns creator Todd McFarlane did a lot of work on Spidey before he left Marvel and when to Image. Todd's another white boy but he based "Al Simmons" Spawn's kinda secret identity on his good friend (and old dorm mate I beleave) who happens to be a black dude named Al Simmons. If you like comics its grate stuff check it out.

What about Spiderman 2099 another really cool black guy I didn't follow it as long as I did Spawn but I though he was the best thing to come out of those 2099 shenanigans.

I believe this issue is pointed out in a Green Lantern comic. A black man talking about Green Lantern helping people with white, yellow, green and, purple skin but, not doing anything for the black man or something like that >.>

Yes but who actually cares about them? Marvel actually creates popular ones.

Alternate theory time!

Comic book heroes are ultimately pretty conservative. When a Marvel property comes out, whats the first thing that the comic book fans ask? "Does it have Wolverine/Spider Man/Iron Man/Whoever in it?" Well every comic fan has asked that same question. Meaning the character pool, including rip-offs, bastardizations, inspirations, and established characters descendants, all take there lineage from the dawn of X Men. In the 60's. Care to ponder why a majorly successful publication didn't have a lot of black character saving the world, when the people with the same color skin as them weren't allowed in the front of the bus? Besides, there is some momentum for most characters to be white anyways, since, indeed, black people are in the minority population wise. That's why it's called a minority. So the tendency towards white males is hardly all that sinister. Not only that, but Marvel is pretty damn progressive when it comes to tolerance, all things considered. They are slowly diversifying there cast, and from what ive seen, it does no come across as forced, usually. Hell, the very basis of the entire franchise is peaceful acceptance and tolerance of people born a little different from you. And try to tell me that Professor X doesn't sound like Martin Luther King with super powers a lot of the times. So overall, Marvel seems to be moving in a good direction, are aware of the problems of racism, and sometimes they have too many white characters, sometimes they try to force minorities into the story, but generally they are moving in the right direction. Good job Marvel, you could certainly be doing a hell of a lot worse. And even though I disagree with this guys criticisms, kudos to him for being self aware. You're going to be fine.

::Edited to add:: The greatest summary of racism, I kid you not, was from the old X Men cartoon. It was an alternate time line where Professor X was assassinated, and because of that there was an all out mutant-human war, and most everyone was dead, and cities were toppled. So teaming up with Bishop, Wolverine and Storm, who were a couple in this universe, go back in time to the 60's to save Professor X. They stop by a diner to get something to eat, and a couple of locals get very, very angry at Wolverine and Storm, because it was interracial dating. They harass and threaten them. Then, Storm gives the locals a funny look, and says, "Discrimination based on...skin pigmentation? How...quaint." And they both proceed to beat the crap out of the bigoted locals. Still would be hard pressed to find a more eloquent example of the stupidity of racism.
