Do the number of pages a thread has affect your desire to post in them?

This is just a completely random question I had.

I tend to find that lately I've been avoiding threads that already have several pages of posts in them (with the obvious exception of forum games). It's just a weird feeling of, "Well at this point me posting in it probably wouldn't matter all that much".

I was just curious if anyone else was also deterred by the number of pages a thread has.

Have a lovely day you beautiful people~

Edit: The title was changed from "forum" to "thread" because TopazFusion had pointed out my error. :3 I was not at all paying attention when I made this for-...thread. :D

Nah, I assume my opinion has probably already been shared by somebody more eloquent.

Yeah pretty much, if I see a post has 3-4 pages in it, and it's not really a discussion thread, more like an opinion thread, I just don't bother.

If it's a discussion thread, "X did Y, what do you think", I'll probably scan the last few pages, see if there's anything to disagree or agree with and post if I find something. But I won't just leave my opinion for the most part

Oh yeah, definitely. Mostly because I'm not a super polarizing user, so my (mostly) neutral opinion has probably been stated if the thread is more than 3 pages in. If it's an interesting topic, I might go in and just state what I think, just for fun.

I do like being one of the first people, though it hardly ever happens

I don't post in a thread with more than 3 pages , UNLESS it's my thread . Like you i figure it just doesn't matter anymore. I usually only read the first two pages , again unless it's my thread then i read every single post.

I would say it depends entirely on the topic.

Favourite actor or tv series or such like? Doesn't matter how many pages there are or if someone's given the same answer as me, I'll still post in that.

If it's something like "What's your opinion on Call Of Duty" then if there's more than 3 or 4 pages I won't bother because someone, in all likelihood, has given my opinion on that.

Yes, very much. In fact, the only reason I'm posting in this thread is because it only has 6 replies.

Y'know, they never used to. And to an extent, they still don't. But if it's got a dozen pages or so, anything I have to say will either have been said or said for me by someone else. So I'll avoid posting in threads like that.

This. And it sucks to read 50 pages just to make sure you're not repeating someone else. Like a big jerk would.

Yeah. Unless it's something where I HAVE to get my opinion out on, I won't post after 2 pages. I think by that time it becomes a group of posters responding to each others posts. I feel like new posts are more or less ignored after that.

Nope. That doesn't deter me at all. I actually want to post in bigger threads a bit more because I can read everyone's experiences while sharing my own. I usually find someone to comment on or discuss with this way, which drives the thread purpose. :)
Hey there! Thanks for quoting me! I quite literally forgot I even made this thread until I saw that little yellow envelope in the corner.

That's quite the positive attitude you have there! :3 I suppose that finding a person to reply to in a long thread would definitely be a reason to post. I should try that sometime.

BAM! Totally edited. I was careless. P.S Attack!
P.P.S I usually read at least the first page of a thread that I post on. :D

I'm only quoting you because I wanted to say that I love your avatar. It's the best.
Also, you make a good point. Those threads that normally go "What would you do in crazy hypothetical situation 'x'?!?!?" usually go on for many pages. Despite that I still like to read a bunch of the posts and try to think of a clever one of my own.

no but it does effect my chances of quoting somebody or reading more of the thread. if there are a smaller number of posts i'll go through all of them, if there are tons of pages, i'm only going to read the OP and comment off that.

Same here. I avoid big threads, unless I see something to reply to, or it's a poll.

Sure but it depends on my mood and the thread, and what the people in the thread have said, I don't actually mind reading 10 page threads, but yeah, it's less likely that I'll post.

I feel irresponsible posting in a thread without reading what's already been posted, but on the other hand I'm too lazy to read through anything more than three pages, though I'll make an exception if the topic and people's opinions are interesting enough.

Sort of. Generally, I only post in a thread in reply to something or if it is on the first page or so and no one has said anything I want to chime in on. Beyond that, my posts are based on getting replies to my own posts. In general, there are few threads over about 3 pages that I'll actually go through reading the whole thing which means the longer a thread gets, the less likely I am to see a thing I want to comment on.

Yeah absolutely. After a certain length it's hard to feel like my opinion will carry any weight.

I tend to only post in short threads. If I'm taking the time to post it's because I want it to be read. Also I can't get all the info from a thread if it's 20 pages. Just not gonna read all that.
