Do the number of pages a thread has affect your desire to post in them?

Yeah, if I see a thread with more than two pages/60+ replies, more often than not I'll avoid it unless I feel my contribution would be beneficial.

Nope by 4 pages or more i figure the thread has been derailed at least once at that point or somebody is doing the my opinion against the world thing making it pointless to post unless it is to fight said person.

Yeah, by a lot. Once it reaches 4 pages I usually wont bother unless someone said something awesome which I have to quote because of it. If I am a part of a discussion then I will post until the discussion ends no matter the page count though.

I also make judgement based on what kind of thread it is. If I see people arguing over the span of pages I wont post because I don't want to be dragged into what seems like it could turn into a lengthy pointless discussion.

If there's a lot of posts I also assume that someone has said something I can roughly agree with it enough to call it a variation of my own opinion. I also know how people wont bother to read 4000 posts so I wont bother to write out anything that will just be for me anyway. I have been surprised by this in the past though. Some of you are really in control of who posts and writes engaging replies to posts from people who joined on page 5. I admire your dedication.

Nah, I assume my opinion has probably already been shared by somebody more eloquent.
Basically this. I don't see much point in repeating (possibly word-for-word) what someone else has already said, and I don't want to read through 8 pages of comments just to find out if someone has already covered my opinion.

Nah, most of my posts are bitter, attempts to be funny or just plain stupid so it's for the best that they get buried.

A thread with tons of posts can reduce my interest in posting, but most of the time it's me that discourages my posting. I'll deem my post not worth posting. This self-control mechanism doesn't always trigger though :D. I assume my opinion won't matter to 99% of those who read it, so I don't think it matters where it shows up on a thread. The allure to post on the first page is strong (someone might read my crap!), but I usually miss that opportunity; browsing the forums by endlessly clicking the Read More... button in the Popular Forum Posts box isn't the most efficient way to browse for new threads. I don't reply to 90% of the threads I read. Even when I do type out something, half the time I just close the browsing tab, instead of hitting "post".

I have actually read 20 pages of replies in a few threads. Usually ones filled with personal stories. Late posters, you are not alone and forgotten! Maybe.

If there's 15 pages on a "friend zone" thread, I won't even think about clicking it, because by then it has descended into the kind of primordial goop of the kind that Miller and Urey might have found use of, whatever it's original complexity might have been. If it's a fresh topic, though, I might jump in, and see how the idea is progressing (though, it usually doesn't). Usually, what sways me more is the topic of the thread, and if it's something I have a definitive opinion on. I try to avoid the ones where I go in thinking "Well, this should be a waste of time."

no lie i almost didn't post this because its already on the second page, so in answer to your question yes. although i will still post sometimes most notably when someone is looking for a statistic because it paints a more accurate picture.
