Typed, it's easier.

But saying it out loud just sounds silly, as it isn't much shorter.

So, no, I don't consider it lazy. Just stupid.

Well, actually the X IS an abbreviation of the Word Christ.
And its been used like that for a long time.

Though i do hate it when someone actually SAYS X-mas.

You both make very good points but what I was trying to say was that I see them saying it on commercials too.

Only if used to promote Christmas sales for X-Men merchandise. I don't think anyone's done that yet but it would be quite groan-inducing.

If you're a Christian or a Pagan, I'd say be happy that X-mas is being used instead of Christmas or Yule
It'd be offensive otherwise.

May it's because the holiday is less about religion now that it ever was, is this because our society is more secular or because most 'Christmas contributions' are actually from other religions and retail giants like Wal-Mart?

Then again, maybe the reason why X-mas is because used is that even so called 'Christians' have forgotten or missed the point of this holiday.
It's not about 'I hope my gift wrap is big and shinny', it's allegedly about giving goodwill to others and other 'hippy stuff'.

Then again, maybe I'm nuts.

I don't think X-mas is lazy because it makes me feel like you can abbreviate "Christ" with "X", and honestly...

I feel like I would be religious again if they started calling him "Jesus X".

No, I like to use X-mas as the Non-religious side of Christmas. You know, wal-mart prices go down, it ain't smart, it's K-mart smart, and all the other crap the mega stores use to get people to buy their crap.

It's an abbreviation. Get a life.

No offense, really, but I just don't care, and neither should you.

X-mas = Christmas. You know it. I know it. What's the problem?

It's like whining about people saying "IBM" instead of "International Business Machines", which nobody does because it's just a more convenient way of writing/saying the same thing.

But nobody says "IBM" any more anyways.

It's not an abbreviation. My missionary friend told me that X is a symbol for Christ, or "Chi" (Ky)

So... Yeah. Not lazy. But... misused? Because you can't SAY X-Mas. Because it's a symbol. It's like trying to say "?". You can say question mark but you can't find a way to verbalise the symbol.

X-Mas has been X-Mas since long before texting or IMing. Writing X-Mas is perfectly fine. Saying X-mas is something I've never encountered and can't say I've ever done seriously. I don't see what the big deal is though. Then again, there are hundreds of thousands of people who are unaware that 'guesstimate' ...pisses me off. I had to pause there because I typed up guesstimate and my computer recognized it as a valid word. THAT annoys me. Right now, 'texting' and, 'IMing' are both underlined in red. What the hell kind of world am I living in!?

Xmas only works on Futurama! Seriously, I'm not even a Christian or believe in the God, but I still spell Christmas all the way out. It takes half a second longer to type. O noez.

X-mas should still be pronounced "christmas", the X is meant to be the greek letter for "Chi" and has been commonly used in combinations (such as XP) in writing dating back a thousand years as an abbreviation of "Christ".

Saying "Ex-mas" takes the same amount of effort as saying "Chris-mas".

Damn Ninja'd. I knew someone whose last name was "Christianson" but spelt "Xenson" which is pretty awesome.
