Greetings and salutations fellow victims of the brain slug, your kind slave master has once again come before you to quell your feeble attempts at an uprising with a topic of discussion that has bothered me for many a moon now.

I am a Man, a Guy, a Male, a Dude, a Brother and as such I like Females, Girls, Women, Ladies........well moving on to the point.

I have seen for a time now that the game industry has picked up on this point and over the years has provided us guys with a smorgasbord of cute/sexy female characters to oogle at in games..........

But have they gone too far?

In many games now, particularly MMORPG's there has been a massive influx of overly sexualised female characters put on show.

Now For obvious reasons I cannot speak for female gamers but I actually look at these giant breasted pole dancers parading as knights/mages/thiefs and I feel a deep sense of shame in my stomach......though that could be the brain slug larvae entering the final stages of gestation.

I took my opinion over to YouTube where I was met with extreme hostility to this matter.
My favorite comment came in this flavour:

"You stupid little mangina. Someone should have stabed your ***** mother when you were inside her womb, so you would not be here doing your shit now. Kill yourself, you pathetic mangina slave".

(This comment was made by a 27 year old man I might add)

But to end this topic I'd like to hear your opinions on this matter, are female characters overly sexualised in games and what can/should we do about it??

One free brain slug shall be delivered to the first few lucky people to comment on this subject..........The brain slug demands it!!!

But moving on, yeah, its the old maxim; 'sex sells.' And it does, over and over again.

Good point and well made.......but you know what else sells?........Brain slugs!

Yes females are overly sexualized, but so are males.
Every female's a stick figure with basketballs on her chest and every man is a shaved gorilla with permanent five o' clock shadow.

It's just the society we live in, characters are created to be percieved as attractive.
Be thankful that our current crop of characters are the way they are. If the majority of society found this to be attractive
Well, videogames and movies and TV... they would all be a lot worse.

Where have you been? This has been going on since the days of Lara Croft. I think thats actually more why her remake is getting so much hate, cause she wont be huge breasted anymore, and not on anything else.

anyway, Its always gone too far, but come on, who's going to stop it? Girls werent gamers when this stuff started, and to be a gamer meant you were some kinda nerd without a life or at the least you werent having the girls take a number outside your bedroom. it was an entirely male dominated thing that only recently has gotten more sexually diverse. SO for yours, women were always over done and shamefully made to be the equivalent of what strippers are now. They were made to show off to the men and reach sex appeal. And since people have grown up with it, its hard to kill it. especially when they big selling point to a game between older/younger brothers, friends, fathers/sons, whatever, was "hey, check this out. its a game where you shoot and kill things, while getting low grade porn in the deal."

So its a trend now thats pretty hard to kill, and the most efficient way to make a buck. Which, has a business, is the ultimate goal of game industries.

EDIT:

I don't play the type of games that have those extremes in anyway, bar Tomb Raider, so I don't really notice it.

First off. You deservie a brain slug yourself for using a picture of Lineage 2 Dark elf. One awesome game right there, well until the old team stopped working on it after Chronicle four... Bastards screwed the game up then...

But I think a good answer to your question can be found in a extra credit vid. Here is the link : http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2505-Sex-in-Games

To me the worst or most annoying thing is when things are not just exaggerated (which is fine) but when it is put too heavily into focus, it begs the question of
"what do you take me for"

I have a reasonable attention span, I don't need to be constantly pandered too.

However Sexy user-made avatar creations in MMO actualy seem to be a primary attraction for the female audience of those games, look at a magazine rack. Women like images of pretty women.

Well i agree and have found myself think "really love, shouldnt you be wearing something more suitable at the moment?"

Also you went to youtube to have a "normal discusion".Why didnt you get your views right them down in your poop and throw them in the ape cage you would have got a better responce honestly.

It's admittedly rather grating, but most of the men are studs as it is anyway, so the chicks really oughtn't complain about that.
Objectification is the more valid complaint, in my opinion.

In a lot of people's opinions, less is more. When seeing a scantilly clad girl some will think "what a total slut". When looking at a well dressed, innocent looking person they will get feelings for them and be attracted to them.

That or I'm talking out my ass and maybe the majority of males in the gaming community are just after the boobage.

I think that some are overly sexualised. It has great burst appeal to some. You'd probably be checking out a cleavage over a personality. However a female in games with an actual roll or personality usually has better lasting appeal.
