Not sure if this should go in gaming or off-topic forums.

So we know pokemon can die ( hence the graveyard). And the pokemon used in competitive battle faint and have to go to the pokemon center . What about the pokemon we encounter on the field, the "wild" pokemon? Without a trainer to bring them to the center, are they just left for dead? I imagine a field filled with dead pokemon i just defeated and didn't catch . Is this accurate in any way?

When there are too many of a certain kind of Pokémon, instinct kicks in and they rush over the nearest cliff edge in crowds, plummeting to the jagged rocks below until their numbers are back down to a reasonable level. This population number varies per Pokémon, depending on their rarity.

I hope this news puts any worries you may have to rest.

They're very, VERY quickly eaten by scavenger pokemon. Considering humans apparently have no idea what Pokémon actually eat and instead just pump them full of chemicals and candy to get them all roided up, the chance for an ACTUAL meal as nature intended is something no Pokémon can pass up.

I would assume they still get away and rest up to heal themselves and no I don't mean rest as the move or maybe their Pokefriend tend to their injuries and nurse it back to full health!

If they eat a Moonblast from my EV trained, 31 IV Sp.A modest Mega-Gardevoir they sure as hell do die. I would be surprised if the goddamn Flabébé would survive this nukeage.

Though I would assume that you just fight them until they flee, not until they reach a fatal state.
Well, at least in Pokemon X/Y, they make it very clear that the Pokemon faints. I just assume that those Pokemon will naturally wake up eventually, and the clinics are just needed because placing Pokemon in balls considerably slows down the wake-up process.

If a Wailord Body Slamming a Skitty only causes the Skitty to faint instead of being reduced to, at most, a tiny smear, then I don't think one should think too hard about the realism of mortality in the Pokemon universe.

Pretty sure they flee in X/Y.
I was trying to catch Mewtwo in a Pokeball the otherday and accidentally fainted it a few times.
After the battle ends a message appears along the lines of: "Mewtwo fled into the darkness of the Cave."

Then again maybe only Legendaries don't die...

Wasn't this in a Cracked article a few days ago?
Oh well; I guess they get eaten by other Pokemon. Probably doesn't end well for the trainers you defeat either. Without pokemon, surrounded by grass covered in wild pokemon waiting for their chance.
Like in the article.

Edit: Here's the one, in case someone is intrested!

I really haven't gotten to the point of facing legendaries yet, so I don't know if the text for them is different, but in the case of the standard Pokemon you fight the text just says, "The wild [Insert Pokemon name here] fainted." I take that as a strong indication that at least regular wild Pokemon do faint when you defeat them.

Well how else are you going to eat? You never buy any food for yourself in the games.

In Black and White they mentioned that the pokemon centers only rest the pokemon, so I think its a matter of a pokemon would wake up fine after a rest, and all the centers do is speed that up.

They not only die, but your Pokemon sucks out their souls to grow stronger.

That's how EV's work.

I thought they just "fainted". Maybe it's a translation thing. Maybe in Japanese it's "Wild RATTATA is now fuckin' dead!".

And it gets worse, certain desirable species are put into a forced breeding program often paired with an creepy doppleganger. After the produce a suitable offspring, they're shunted off to languish in virtual purgatory.

I wasn't very precise before.
If you defeat Mewtwo the fight text message will say "Mewtwo has fainted".
But afterwards an extra overworld message appears saying he fled.

So Nintendo couldn't really make the message any clearer: Pokemon faint after battle and are therefore immobilized, then they flee at a tremendous speed and vanish, even within caves that have but one exit.

So yeah, logic...

Well, you beat up a wild animal until it fainted and left it alone in a place full of predators that will attack anything in sight, including humans...

They only die if you give one to a child that's younger than 10 years of age... Seriously, I'm pretty sure that 6-year-old is holding that Jigglypuff just a bit too much...

On the more serious side, if wild Pokemon did die, then whenever a Trainer (like yourself) walks into that small patch of grass and ends up finding a pile of dead Pikachus... which so far, that has never happen to me yet...

Most Pokemon do die... just in that "4kids" kind of way with added gravestones to confuse people into asking these kind of questions...

Thanks, 4kids!

To be fair, if you go by the pokedex, sucking out peoples' and pokemons' souls is how about a quarter of all pokemon feed.

Mewtwo at least is psychic, it could easily teleport away instictively after fainting.

If you beat up Snorlax in X and Y (and in previous games, I think, and I also think this goes for other Pokemon you can see on the map, like Sudowoodo) it says something along the lines of 'The Pokemon returned to the mountains.)
