Do you act the same online as you do in real life?

A few days ago I was playing Call Of Duty: MW2 with a few friends from my college over PSN. To cut a long story short, we lost, quite horribly. When the match ended and we were back at the matchmaking screen, two of my friends just hulked out to these kids calling them every name under the sun. I was shocked by this quite alot, I don't often play online shooters, so maybe this is normal behaviour, but I wouldn't expect it from those particular friends. It just got me thinking and I wanted to ask openly, do you think you act the same online as you do in real life? Do you say things to people that wouldn't dream of saying to someone's face just because there are no physical reprecussions?

Thanks :)

In a way yes, but this is becoming less and less the case now. my internet persona is slowly smothering my real life persona (which is a good thing BTW)

Well I used to, and I still generally do. I don't abuse people or talk differently to how I do in real life.
Although sometimes me and my friends get together and troll, for trollings sake. We go on games and just have a laugh with the people online. It's less abusing people and more doing stupid things like team killing or have awkward conversations with eachother to make the others feel awkward.

I tend to try and be about the same, though I will admit that sometimes IRL I'm a bit less willing to spit out snarky remarks at people that annoy me.
But only a bit, I am getting to be kinda notorious among my friends for being a "take no crap" kind of person lately.
Maybe as FrostyChick said, that aspect of my personality is melding with my real life personality. :p

Well you can't get banned in real life. I guess there's prison, but still...

I act online the same way I do in life: it depends on who I'm talking to.

I'm more open online.
maybe it's just the Anonymity but I generally feel more comfortable talking online.
I just happen to be quite shy in real life.

Pretty much that. I'm outspoken with people I'm comfortable with, but that's it.

I have fairly similar tendencies both online on off. For me, anonymity is not reason enough to start waving my prick around and hurling insults at people I disagree with. I already do that normally.

I'm pretty much the same online as I am in person. Which is to say, a jaded cynical, skeptical jerk with a heart of gold. XD

I might be super sarcastic and have a biting sense of humor, but I do care about people, even if it doesn't always show.

No, not really.

In MMO's i am mildly shy when approaching people much like in real life.

I am also very stubborn during conversations. The moment i think someone isn't having a conversation, and is trying to somehow win the discussion is when i stop being civil. Much like in real life.

SO yeah. I conduct myself the same.

I'm the same way. All in all though, I treat people with the same courtesy and respect online that I do in real life.
