If we didn't care about the other people's opinions on the thread, then there wouldn't be quoted statements and there wouldn't be debates/arguments in the thread. :)

Aaaand your thread is exactly the one you mentioned.

I do care, but only when it's something really interesting. Otherwise, why posting at all?
Also, this. ^

Yes. It's called an "Ego generating topic" where others posts does not matter but to block you away from other non-readers.

I never assume people have read my posts until I get quoted. Luckily, that happens 30-50% of the time.

Usually it depends on the topic. Honestly I wasn't even going to post on this one, but I have been persuaded.

I read and reply to topics that grab my attention.
The nonsensical topics or the ones that have been done a million times thus show a blatant lack of originality usually are ignored.

I see it as immature people either post boosting or trying to bring their meaningless facebook style bollocks on here, and I really am not sure who are the biggest retards, the ones who originate, who might just be trying to get a badge, or the ones who actually reply, who may just be post boosting.

I actually wish the moderators would step in on some of these posts and just delete them.

If the thread is interesting, I.E not a "what's your favorite movie?" like thread, then read most of the comments posted (if not all).

I think will this actually work?

Will they bother to respond to my question?

Thats it.
I don't do many threads.

As this very thread demonstrates, no-one cares. People just come in, take a shit in this thread, and leave without ever looking back.

So even if there are posts I would bother replying to, they'll be inevitably buried under tons of crap.

I usually read about half a page before posting, although not on this thread for some reason. Truly ironic....

Like others have said, I tend to read the first page or few pages, depending on my interest level. This one, no offense, I had less interest in once I read it, so I dropped off at the end of the first. I clicked because I was wondering "care about what?"

When there's something I want to quote, I'll quote it. When I want to discuss a point someone made, I'll quote or address it. When I'm asked my opinion, I'll probably toss it out unless something catches my eye before my attention span gives out.

I spend more time replying to other people's posts. If I am to post something of my own, I usually read 2 pages worth of comments before jumping to the end to post mine.

I always read every post if I'm going to reply. Seems weird not to. But it seems I'm the weird one.
