Do you actually finish the games you are playing?

Before answering that question, lets first take a look at what it means to finish a game. First off, multiplayer games don't really have an end. So it is up to the player to say when they have enough. I suppose when you have tried everything and seen it all.

For Singleplayer games finishing a game could mean to complete the last level. Or maybe to complete it on the highest difficulty or even getting all achievements.

So my first question is: When do you say you have finished a game?
And the main question: Do you actually finish games by your standard?

With all those indie bundles and Steam sales I haven't even touched 75% of my library. So when a game isn't very good, I quickly turn it down. I haven't really paid much money for it anyhow and I have plenty of other choices. I guess I only have completed about 1/3 of the games I have played in recent years. In the past that percentage was over 90.

I am not as invested in specific games as I used to be.

First question: Mostly nothing. I mostly play single-player games and don't really need to hear myself talk.

Main question: Only if the game is absolutely terrible. FFX-2 was the last one I think. I even managed to finish X-Blades (probably the worse of the two but significantly shorter).

First: When I beat the main storyline.
Second: I'm embarrassed to say, but roughly half the games I start end up in "I'll come back to it." purgatory.

Depends on the game but if its story driven I have finished it when I have played through the story to the end other more open ended ones I dont say I have finished I just have had enough at some point.

I usually finish games now yes because I buy much much less before I would see a sale and go ohhhhh game this one looks interesting or I have heard good things about this and then usually never play half of them. Now I only buy games if I know I will play them and in all odds finish them even though it means missing out on ones I want it dosent matter because I know I would be unlikely to get around to them anyway.

When I've completed the main campaign.
If the game is at least ok, I finish it if it's not too hard. I'd say that means I've beaten 70% of the games I've owned, not counting platformers for the Gameboy when I was a wee lad.

I usually bounce around my games, as not to focus too heavily on just one game and burn out on it. Like I'm currently bouncing around Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, Okami and Dark Souls.

Personally, I believe "finishing" a game exists only on a superficial level. There are still games I play long after "finishing it(Dark Souls, Dragon's Dogma, Tales of Symphonia/Graces f/the Abyss)." I think a game is only truly finished when you're done playing it, never to play it again.

Unless they are outright terrible, yes. Of course I do. By my standard? Sure. I don't go after achievements/trophies. And I usually don't bother with optional bits if I find them tedious or boring. And some games you never finish. You just go back and play a bit more. Like Minecraft. Or start the adventure over again. Like Pokémon.

I can honestly say that I'm never really done with games. I always have my collection of games in hand so if I ever get a case of the nostalgia, I can pick it up an older title and have some fun for a few hours. Also, I would sometimes restart an older title and, knowing what I did now compared to when I first started the game, can approach the title differently and have a new experience.

I have a knack for always completing games, even if I leave it alone for weeks, months, or even years. Depending on the title and degree of difficulty, I would often attempt to get 100%.

Hahaha. No. Rarely, anyway.

A game is finished for me when I have the gist of what the game is, what it's core premises are, and how the gameplay works. That analysis can take years but its my justification for never playing a game again.

Based on that standard, I finish all of my games. I just happen to come back to a lot of them from time to time.

I consider a game completed when I finish the story/campaign. Of course if it's good I may well go back for more later.

I finish the majority of games I start, as in over half, but I no longer force myself to labour through shitty games.

Recently abandoned Assassin's Creed 3. God damn that thing was dull.

When do you say you have finished a game?

Usually when the main story is finished and the credits have rolled. But of course depending on the game I'll stick around for the extras. I've only 100% a few of my games (by 100% I mean all achievements and all content completed).

Do you actually finish games by your standard?

Well I certainly try to and I have done for most of my games. I haven't finished Forza 4 yet but there is a massive amount of content to get through.

On a side note I've always found the phrase 'beat the game' that some use a bit odd. Nothing wrong with it of course, it's just a different view I suppose.

Pretty much this.

A lot of games I play end up in the "I'll come back to it later" pile and maybe I do or maybe I don't actually end up beating their campaigns, other games I play until I'm burnt out and don't feel like continuing any further would be any more fun.

I put something like 68 hours into DmC before I decided I didn't feel like playing it any longer. I played through Bioshock and Infinite twice. I've played through the Mass Effect games plenty of times. I still go back to Mirror's Edge every now and then and I'll probably play Deus Ex: Human Revolution again once the Director's Cut additions hit the PC. Conversely, though I love the story, world, lore, and even gameplay, I've yet to 'finish' or beat either of The Witcher games, or Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker, or Beyond Good & Evil, or countless other games.

Part of it is just because I've got so many games that I get distracted and bounce between multiple games, with the end result of never beating any of them.

I like to think that as long as a game doesn't leave me with the resounding feeling of "Meh, this is all right", I'll eventually go back to it and complete it. I have with a few titles, like Dead Space.

I have finished a game when I have finished the main story line
All games apart from dark souls have been completed in my game library
And MW3 come to think of it but I don't buy COD for the sp anyway

Also you can't "complete" competitive mp imo.

After the main storyline is completed. If multi player when I've played all the maps or believe it wont be fun anymore. I do finish most of the games I play. Something really bad has to happen because by now I've got good at knowing why I'm buying a game. Out of games I thought I'd Finnish but never did I'd have maybe 1 every couple of years.

Always, unless it's really shitty. It's my game, I bought it, I'm finishing at least the main storyline without getting distracted by other games and exhausting all side bits I can find (minus most collectibles and achievements, so like the bigger story stuff). I usually get a tad upset when I find out about a side mission or optional story bit I missed, and under certain circumstances will only replay the game enough to get all that done. Unless it's getting all the codec calls fuck listening to all the codec calls.

I'm not a completionist, though, I can still let stuff like collectibles slide, even if they give a super satisfying reward. Yeah fuck most of that stuff.

I never do that to multiplayer/MMO type games though, I just play when I or my friends are done.

After thinking about the second thing more it's actually kind of a confusing question. I guess there's two levels of finishing or beating a game, one where it's just the main storyline, the other when you get all the shit and can truly call it over. In Multiplayer games it's a little tougher. I don't think you can truly finish or beat a multiplayer game unless you unlock or find or whatever everything you can.

For me finishing a game happens when the credits roll, although, depending on how fun I find it, I might stick around for extra stuff (I've only ever completed a game 100% a handful of times).

And I end up with plenty of games where I'm at the last dungeon (or equivalent) and suddenly I lose interest, because I know there's no/little extra content after, and restarting doesn't sound too good considering all the work I put in.

Oftentimes not. Used to a lot with flash games, and I had a bit of an obsession with achievements for a bit. But once I realized that achievements/trophies/badges were killing my ability to play games without them, I reevaluated my gaming habits, and fixed them. Sadly, I just don't finish enough of them, because there are always so many other games out there.

However, I did just play all the way through and beat Monster Tale today and yesterday. So that was refreshing.

I'd say I finish a game once I get to the end. I might not be done playing it, but it's finished.

As for how many games I actually finish, I'm not quite sure. Not all of them, that's certain. A game either has to engage me with its mechanics and gameplay or it has to keep me hooked with the story and characters. If both of those dry up, I'm out. A recent example would be Knights of Pen and Paper - Initially I liked the concept, the visuals and the gameplay, but I will not be finishing the game because it runs out of steam easily, gets repetitive and there's not much of a plot to keep me interested.

It depends on the game. I've finished a few games like Pokemon Gold and Soul Silver as far as the story goes because I've never completed the pokedex. The World Ends With You, P3P, P4, P4G, and SMT Devil Survivor:Overclocked (lotta SMT games) and Fire Emblem Awakening are ones that I've finished to the end credits. Persona 3 FES I've completed 100% and in a game like Okami I've gotten 100% completion and have beaten it over 9 times.
