Do you add friends, or do they add you?

So here on the Escapist we have the handy-dandy friend system so that you can keep track of all the people that you love so much on this site. But, to get a friend, you have to add them. And, at least in my experience, when friended most people will friend back.

So, my question to you all is: Do you add people as friends first, or wait for people to add you? Also: Do you always friend people back when they friend you?

I did the adding all of two times. If someone adds me as a friend, I will add them only if I actually know who the are, or they send me a message telling me their reasoning behind the add.

I mostly add people myself but only after a good long discussion with them in a forum.

Outside of a special occasion, I don't add unless they add me first.

And I tend to befriend right back, although I will usually follow up with a PM questioning the add, unless the reason is clear to me.

And yes, I befriend people who add me - I just see it as being polite.

I'm pretty much always added by people. I can't really think of anyone I friended myself...

I wait for them to befriend me, then I friend back.

Well, I only have been befirended by one person, though.

It depends. If I come across someone who has made a particularly good point somewhere, I'll take a look through their latest posts and see if we've overlapped anywhere. If we have, they get friended. Another way people get a request is if I've run into them more than ten times or so. As far as accepting goes, I do the same thing. When I get a request, I look through their profiles and make a judgment after a browse through their posts.

I don't get added a whole lot. I only invited 1, and got asked by 2. I got asked by someone I didn't know or have ever spoken to either, but obviously I turned that down.

So you could say that it's a little of both.

Here, I tend to do both. On facebook, since I couldn't care less, I just let people add me. That's probably why I have so little friends.

I'll usually add people after they've added me. I'm not the first to friend someone, because everyone has a different view on what would constitute a reason to friend someone on here. So, I'm usually only friends with the people who friend me first.

I'd say mine is just about even, when I started out though I added more people rather the other way around.
