How often do you come to a conclusion that shares the same sentiments as the majority? Do you go with the unanimous consensus, or are you more often divided with your opinions on any given subject?

I tend to agree with the majority most of the time. Is this merely me following the leader? Or am I basing my decisions off of cross referenced anecdotal evidence that may affect my judgment and perspective?

What about you?

It depends where I am. I normally support the minority, 60-40 ratio.

Here... It's more like 80-20.

Yeah, there seems to be very little middle ground on this site. Everyone here is highly opinionated, and if a topic doesn't interest them, they don't respond, becoming non factors to the discussion, usually leaving the thread with a clear divide between the opposing opinions.

Depends on what majority you're talking about. Statistics are a funny thing, and they vary from region to region, culture to culture, language to language. As to whether I'm usually in agreement with the people around where I live... that depends heavily on the subject.
Religion: no
Politics: no
Ethics: yes
Education: no
Relationships: no
Sex: hell no
Environmentalism: yes

...tried to think of more topics, but... meh.
So I guess the consensus is generally no.

As for your agreeing with the majority most of the time, OP... I don't know if that's simply because you live in an area where most people think alike and you were raised on those same beliefs, or because you genuinely arrived at your beliefs through reason and they happen to mesh with those around you... or perhaps you're simply easily swayed in debate. I don't actually know you, and I don't know where you're from and what people are like there... so I couldn't say.

**edit** if you mean on this site... that depends even more heavily on the subject matter at hand... and who bothers to post in a given thread. We've got a whole lot of different opinions represented here, and it's a fairly even spread on most gaming subjects.

It depends on the topic. I am all over the map when it comes to issues. On one I will be republican and on another I will be completely democrat. I love being an independent. :? )

Thing is, majorities can have strong influences. It's the mob mentality, where we become compelled to conform. Humans are by nature social creatures, and becoming accepted is a primal instinct. But vocal minorities can also affect judgment. See the WBC. One psychotic Church can create distaste towards religion, when in reality the majority is comprised of normal people.

This is a somewhat complex topic, as the amount of factors that go into decision making can be listed at a length too long for this thread. Depending on your stance, your decisions can influence your character and personality.

So pushing it down to simplest terms, with no outside factors affecting your judgment, do you agree or disagree with a majority consensus? You have outlined that you don't, whilst I have outlined that I do. What does this say about you?

I find I tend to disagree with the majority quite a bit. I normally agree with parts of it, but overall, not so much.

Medal of Honor Reboot: Loved it. (Single-player anyway)
CoD series (Including 4, which I haven't played but can promise my hatred of it, as it has permanent aim assist.)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Hated it.
Inglorious Bastards: Hated it.
Bin Laden died: Likes the fact, but knows that It means fuck all.
As well as political, Etc, etc.

That's all off of the top of my head, but you get the message.

Most people agree with the majority on most things; that's why it's the "majority" after all.

I don't agree with most people on religion, reason being that I'm not religious. I also like a lot of media that most people don't seem to like, and vice versa. It's just part of having an opinion. I don't really find that I'm outvoted on most things, though.

...when you push it down to the very simplest terms and simply ask yes or no, I would have to answer "depends". There can be no answer without context, as far as I'm concerned.

I tend to play devil's advocate. Or a troll of some sort. Regardless of the situation.

In the absense of context, this question is hard, if not impossible to answer. The tautological response: I agree with the consensus when I think the consensus is right.

I don't know what you mean by "with no outside factors affecting your judgment." Perhaps you mean something like "with no evidence except the opinion of the majority", then I hesitate to say either yes or no.

As a strictly empirical matter, though, I tend to disagree with the consensus, to the extent that it is the view of a very large group. Normally something must be simplified to make it agreeable to a large and diverse group, whereas I normally go for the deep thinking and very specific conclusion.
