Do you believe in good and evil?

I believe in the words. But I am opposed to duality, and the reductionist moralising it encourages.

personally i think good and evil do exist
but it's not society that chooses what they are
it's the indivdual's own choice of what they are
if he can justify murder then i'm happy to accept that that person killing people is 'good'
though i would say it's evil
its all subjective
but i'd say that although they have the right to believe what their own good and evil are
they don't have the right to practice it if it contradicts a law of their governers

I don't really believe in it cause you know, like 9/11 sure we thought it was terrible and bad but the terrorists thought it was wonderful and good and great.

To me, "evil" is not giving a shit about anyone or anything but yourself and "good" is the exact opposite of that.

The rest is shades of gray regardless of where it falls in the context of law or morality.

It is all retrospective an action could turn out to be what people would say is evil in the long run but at the time it was the right decision to make.

I believe in pure good and pure evil - but I don't believe they're concepts we can apply to humans. I'm not a religious person, but I have the desire to believe in some sort of higher power that is truly good, or truly evil - I imagine it would be incredibly difficult for most people of faith to accept that any higher being could be flawed, such are the concepts of good and evil.

And they're good markers - most of us can tell when we've done something "good" or something "bad", we generally have good morals and ethics and can recognise where the line lay. The only difference being, the line moves for every person/situation, and so we can't have strict barriers.

I am reminded of a quote from Final Fantasy VII, I think it was a member of Shinra or The Turks or something who said "There is no good or evil, only power and those who seek it."

I've just googled it and apparently someone in Harry Potter said something similar?

Either way I've never forgotten that, I believe it to a degree.

Well i kind of believe in good and evil but it isnt some battle of balance or somthing like that, nor is it what happens or what someone does its the intentions and what they had thought at the time. I cant quite remember the exact quote so someone correcting me would be nice but The best intentions can lead to poor results, without evil there wouldnt be good as how could we tell apart the two. People do things we may consider evil but i think its more about why they do somthing rather than the result.
