Its not really racism but class and caste systems are prevalent in just about everything we do, even down to whether we prefer McDonalds over Burger King, so if we chose a side in the war between a shit tasting snack then when it comes to something as serious as gaming then of course the racism is gonna be more pronounced.

Its why I always loved X-men when I was but a child, I always thought the powers were a backdrop to some excellent racial message.

It's a reflection and symbolism of society throughout the course of time and history, so yeah it's naturally in there. Otherwise it wouldn't be as realistic.

In FFX The Al Bhed were discriminated against, poor little Rikku. I know one of my games people hated my dark elf(possibly Chamions of Norrath but I could be wrong)

Virtually every fantasy game (or at least most of them) have some form of, if not discrimination, than segregation.

Well interestingly enough I'm in a Mortal Online guild that due to our rp lore won't allow any thursar (half-orc) players to join.

I don't think there is any racial discrimination between players in fantasy mmo's outside an rp sense though, un-less one of the races is overpowered in which case there can be a lot.

Elder Scrolls had this, Tolkein had signs of it, Mass Effect was steeped in it, and I think it's something that's necessary for realism, because no matter what we do, there will always be racial, or species stereotyping and people who are racist and whatnot. Not having it reduces the air of believability a bit.

Besides, where would we get all those great jokes if there were no racism?

Arcanum: Half-orcs are always discriminated against and are the poor, oppressed working class in the factories. If you play one, every NPC feels free to insult you, until you admit to be sorry for being one (which is really demeaning).
Half-ogres are bred just to serve the rich gnomes as bodyguards.

I would probably guess there is discrimination in fantasy games because of the sterotypes of some of the races.

Oh I was a total anti-christ towards the elfs in Dragon Age.

I was glad that they lived in humanity's shadow and were inferior to humanity.
I took every opportunity to exert humanity's superiority over the elves in that game.

I might decide to RP a bit with my character and decide that I don't like a certain race but for the most part I don't hate any particular races. Well at least I can't remember hating any races, but I get the feeling I've done so before...
