I think you ought to upgrade from normal tinfoil to this guy:

Way more protection.

Don't know what's in where? In the sun? Behind the sun?

I think something that massive would be noticed by its gravitational effects. Was it Neptune or Pluto which was found specifically by following an unknown source of gravity?

inb4 jokes about the size or Ur(my)anus.
Behind the sun, at the opposite side of earth's orbit. And let's assume that this planet in question is about the same size as Earth and does not cause any noticeable gravitational effects.
The problem lays in the fact that it MUST cause gravitational effects. That is how the universe works.

If you want to talk about an entirely hypothetical "what-if" just as a thought experiment, sure, why not. We would mount missions and send probes and have raving mad parties about how we were going to settle this other planet. If it has similar composition to earth we could speculate on how it would help our over-population problems. The discovery would fuel massive interest in our space program. It would be awesome.

But it cannot exist in reality, if it did, we would know about it, because there is no way that a) a stable, non-colliding orbit could be maintained or b) the planet's gravitational effects could be missed.

I hear one of Jupiter's nine moons, Europa, has water on in (though it's below a thick layer of ice).
It has more water than the earth does and more oxygen

Man you guys are such killjoys. OP comes up with a theory and you shit all over it with that boring physics and astronomy science bullshit. Fucking miracles, man. Miracles.
Yeah, I'm with you. The planet could me made of magnets. No bullshit science can spoil the fun then.

Because he is wrong, and this is the internet. If you are wrong on the internet lots of people are going to tell you so.

It's like a law or something.

I jest, it just well... It sounds like an interesting theory but then again most "crackpot" theories are. There was a NASA probe who's name eludes me but it took several images of our solar system from high above the elliptic plane. No shadow planet was detected.

It´s always fun when a pothead opens a thread.

With all the junk in orbit around earth that's more plausible them you might think.
Well it would have to be in the right spot not to drift away or come crashing down XP
True but you don't know what them Cosmonauts threw out the air lock.

Seeing as we know about all the other planets, asteroids, comets etc in our solar system, and other far beyond, if there was another planet on the other side of the sun, we would have known it was there LOOOOOONG ago.

If it's the size of Earth, it WILL produce noticeable gravitation effects. That's how we found Pluto, and Pluto is tiny. And how could you explain that none of the hundreds of probes sent out have spotted this planet? Right now, we've got one orbiting closer to the sun than Mercury, it's spent a fair amount of time on the other side, and it hasn't detected anything.

I can see you are new here, so depending on how long you've lurked, you probably know that this community is not very kind to conspiracy theories and the like. We need evidence, or at the very least a theory which hasn't been conclusively disproved over and over and over again. And preferably on that doesn't break the laws of physics.

Damn, all I have is a kit kat wrapper! :/

I also agree with the probes and physics arguements... its practicaly impossible, we would know about it! It would have to be identical mass, identical distance from the sun, and the same eliptical orbit, all of which is too improbable for a belief to settle for me!

Yeah. But it blew up in the eighties. So there's no reason to speculate about it any more.
