Do you buy strategy guides?

The only strategy guide I ever got was for GTA: San Andreas, but that was only because I got it for free because my aunt worked at the shop. So I don't know if that counts.

I don't tend to buy them, though, because there's rarely anything in those magazines that you can't find on the internet. Or at least I would assume.

The Internet is a giant free strategy guide. Why would I spend money on what I can find online with BETTER information that is usually regularly updated and errata'd

I've bought them before and while I haven't bought any recently, I do enjoy them. It's true, all the same information can be found for free online but I consider strategy guides to be sort of unofficial art books for the games they're about. Besides, in this day and age you can't rely on the game manual for great game-art like you used to be able to.

Yes, but only for a few games.
Games have to be complex enough (like fighting games) or big enough (like Skyrim) to validate having a guide about them.

I have a few, but I don't usually look at them since I just go to the interwebz most of the time. I get certain ones to collect just because they look cool or something. Like I have hardcovers Assassin Creed's, Starcraft 2's, and God of War 3's just to name a few. Aside from God of War 3's I never used any of them, but they look damn fancy on my shelf.

On occasion usually for huge open world games like fallout oe TES it makes the later playthroughs different because I just look for places I haven't been to or quests I haven't done or loot I've missed, sure it's all on the wiki but this way I can play and look up stuff at the same time since I normally browse on my ps3.

I play most my games on a PC and with Steam's browser being able to go into any internet site without even closing the game I don't see the point. Also I prefer to find out of things on my own.

I was bought the Baldur's Gate 2 stategy guide by my parents, and I now know the game inside out because of it, but I was playing the game at like age 10 so I suppose I needed it.

Was a good buy, but I don't think I'll be doing it for any other games.

I would buy a strategy guide if they weren't so goddamn expensive. I mean $5? no way.

Not only do I not, it confuses me that anyone else would and that they even still bother making them anymore. It's been well over a decade since the free ones online have been more accurate and up to date than anything you could buy in a store. It just doesn't make any sense to me that someone would pay that kind of money for something that's less good. If all you want to do is collect stuff, they sell all sorts of other crap to go along with the games.

I know all the information about games is available for free on the internet, but I like buying strategy guides. They are fun to collect, and I like flipping through them on the john. I don't really use them to hold my hand thru a game but they are a good reference. Also I feel like I have the "full set" if I have a game and its official guide.

Used to collect them back in the day. Hadn't bought one for probably 10 years before I picked up one for FFXIII-2, mainly because it was already on the counter of the store and I was wondering where to find something

Nope. I like to figure things out on my own and if i hit a wall i look it up on the internet, the last time i actually needed some help with a game was when i got stuck in skyrim because of a door puzzle, when i found out that the symbols were on the claw i felt stupid.

Very occasionally. Mostly just for RPGs and stuff. I'll be getting the Kindgom of Amalur one, and the last one before that was Skyrim.
