WHY would anybody be interested in this? If you think Absolution looks cool go play Splinter Cell Conviction, if you like Hitman go play Blood Money because as far as im concerned absolution looks like mindless violence porn with no sense of the freestyle subterfuge that made Blood Money so unique. Hitman had so much untapped potential it pisses me off greatly to see it fall pray to marketing department logic of "well apparently Hitman is like a stealth game and Splinter Cell is doing well lately, lets do what they do with with more awesome blood and violence for our hyperactive teen demographic"

(Sigh) I guess the fledgling genre of subterfuge-em-up will die just like the space and god game genres because they don't earn 40 million in the first week.

Except that the entire game engine and design has been shown to STILL revolve around subterfuge and stealth... with just enough action chucked in to make this man a BELIEVABLE genetically-engineered murder machine for the sake of narrative.

You know. Because sometimes not -everything- in a story can be solved by hiding in a dark alley. Or because, gods forbid, the player FEELS like just going through and shooting everything and having it be FUN.

That's all they've done. Added a nice little boost to the quality of the gunplay on top of an already excellent foundation of stealth and subterfuge.

But by all means, pop in and feel free to start telling people what to like.
Folks like you love to do that sort of thing. You just MUST know better than the rest of us.

Well, sorry... but I think I'm going to take a chance and formulate my own opinions.
Woah woah chill, I just watched that link after making that comment. The reason my outlook was so skeptical was because all I had seen of it so far was absolutely every other piece of promotional material they had released. Its like everything I saw in that new video was what I would want to see from a Hitman title, strange how they made that the last trailer before release when its so much more encouraging than the library walkthrough where Hitman is beset by an unskippable helicopter chase or the randomly stripper nunsassins pre-animated... thing recently.

So yeah open area player choice and freestyle murder are still there woo! Im sorry I sounded like one of those "anybody who disagrees with me are idiots" internet people who I hate so much but I was just venting my frustration having seen terrible trailer after terrible trailer to the point where I darn't even follow the link lest I subject my eyes to more torment. I was pleasantly surprised when I did :D.

ps: I like that the player can just run in and blow everything away, my only grievance was all the trailers showing nothing BUT that indicating it was the only rout. Ill probably still give this game a pass but I can now see why somebody would play it.

Edit: Yeah looking back at that post I would come across like a total prick considering the linked video (note to self: be less cynical)

Well the game always had quite a limited fanbase, it just never became one of those Halo/CoD hip new things all the cool kids need to have.

I was never that into it, I just don't like stealth games that much plus it's all real-world stuff that I just don't give a damn about, same reason I gave up on every Splinter Cell game... you just aren't progressing toward anything interesting.
Give me something like Deus Ex however and I'm all over that shit, which is why I will go for Dishonored instead (even though it has an awfully boring name).

Besides the dumb trailer everything else seems just like a hitman game should be. With the highest difficulty you don`t even have to use the new "sense"features. The first preview impressions are sounding neat and interesting. There are enough experimental ways to reach your goal and simple shooting makes the game just harder. While cops are easy taken out the breaching SWAT troops will kill agent 47 fast. I`m keeping my eyes on the game and wait for the first console pictures and vids (the graphics are very nice but i`m starting to doubt the current generation a bit, most of the shown stuff looks like pc footage to me).

I'm not an established Hitman fan, so it never featured highly on my list on anticipated games.

The tacky as fuck trailer changed my attitude from "meh" to "definitely not" (and no, not because it "showed a guy fighting women").

The franchise ended for me with the last game. This... this doesn't feel like the old Hitman. Maybe next summer Steam sale, when it's $10 or less.

Very much so. I love the Hitman series, and still frequently play Blood Money (Even if it is confusing to get a perfect silent assassin rating, kill everyne through accidents or suicide looking moves, and then the news paper says they were murdered, policve suspect blood money was involved. Even when it wasn't.), and have been trying to find a copy of 1 and 2. I'm kind of annoyed at the removal of the live map...but unless they royally break the game, it'll just make sneaking around a bit harder.

I care that it's been 6 years and yet it seems Blood Money will still be the far better game.

So, in a sense.

The more I've been shown, the more I've spun from worry to distress to resentful acceptance. I hope it'll surprise me and not be a complete waste and misunderstanding of the concept, but I can see it easily going the other way.

I mean for fuck sake, it should be going for more openness, and yet most of the previews have said levels have checkpoints and follow linear areas to get through.

If you're the developer on a Hitman game, and you start using the word 'cinematic' to describe your new entry for the series, that's a sign you've gone wrong pal.
