I like the game lore to exist. That let's me know there is more to the game than what I am seeing. But I'll rarely read any large quantity of it. If something catches my interest, I might read about it, but there's no way I'd read all the lore in any game or anything else for that matter.

I play on a roleplay server in World of Warcraft so it's at least practical to have a working knowledge of the lore around the characters you create.

For starters, It's useful to know that if you were say, making a Night Elf, they're likely thousands of years old, not 18-25

like I see a lot of people pretending to be.

Or if you're playing a Draenei, NO you were not born on Azeroth, you were born on a spaceship or a different planet.

And the amount of times I see human players talking down to dwarves and calling them 'boy'... No sir, it does not work that way!

The average middle-aged dwarf is 130 years old, No human has the right to call a Dwarf 'boy'.

I guess since that kind of got a bit ranty towards the end there (I'm serious about my dwarves) that maybe Lore is pretty important to me.

Yeah, Lore is a big damn part of many of the games/books I enjoy. My favorite being currently the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series of games.

Yes, The Elder Scrolls lore. I love reading through all the books I find in the games and I spend probably too much time on the wiki. I would say the Elder Scrolls games are the only games I could consider myself a proper geek on.

The Lore I've enjoyed the most has stemmed from both Morrowind and Warhammer 40k.

The Elder Scrolls had a wealth of information that I unwittingly found myself having to deal with in order to understand why certain people were trying to kill me or induct me into their problems. In Morrowind, I found that knowing more about the world I was playing in not only made the game a little easier but also inadvertently made me care about it more.

Warhammer 40k's lore, on the other hand, just takes itself so seriously to the point where its almost Biblical.

Lore is an integral part of my experiences, I want to know WHY i just blew an Elite's brain onto the chest of one of his grunt subordinates.

I'm really into lore. If I like the series a lot I can spend hours just reading up on all the history and everything about the backstory of the games world.

Lore I follow?

Gears of War, Gothic, Fallout, Witcher, Zelda and Risen has become a new series I'm interested in. It's also quite young so has potential to grow and I'm interested in seeing the Risen universe expand with Dark waters when it gets released. I've followed some Halo lore as well but not to the extent of those series.

Good lore, to me, is just as important as solid game mechanics. Even if the game mechanics are excellent, what's the point if I have no interest in being a part of that world?

Example, a friend of mine tried to get me into Shadowrun, but the lore seemed really wacky to me, so I was turned off, even though I do love me some cyberpunk.

To be honest I love the lore of David Edding's books well thought and interesting enough that it will make you keep on reading the books 'til eternity and on.

I enjoy the lore, yes. Games like Dragon Age, Fallout, and Mass Effect are my favorites.

Oh, and Forgotten Realms.

I know more about the 40k lore than a lot of the employees in stores, despite not actually playing the game myself. I just like it.

I know a fair bit about WoW lore, again, I don't play it (any more.)

I don't really know about anything else though. The other games I play (other than ES) don't really have lore. Minecraft certainly doesn't.

Edit: If we're including lore in book series, I know plenty of LoTR, Harry Potter, Darren Shan, Isaac Asimov and Lovecraft.
I think thats all.

I enjoy the lore in TeS very much. It's good to know that Orcs are the most civil of all the races, that dwarves are a sub-species of elves, and what the hell is up with Nirnroot.

I've always thought that bioware does a very nice job of fleshing out the settings for their games with lore. KoTOR, ME, DA...

I don't follow any, but in games I prefer to infer it as opposed to being given a codex.

Oh yes, I love the lore. WH40k is the lore I like best, I can just go on the lexicanum and read for ages, but I read the star wars universe books and the star trek books and surf memory alpha and so on. If a game does the lore credit, then I'll generally play the game simply for lore's sake.
