for instance, in halo 3 ranking up means nothing but its still a great game, and in COD4 and 5 it means something and they are great games. so do you care about ranking up if it won't do anything?

If it doesn't really do anything, I don't see the point, although it can be a good indicator of how skilled your team/opposition are.

Hell no... That's partly why I quit playing halo 3 and 2. Assclowns screaming DON'T RUN OUT YOU'LL DIE AND LOSE THE GAME OMG MY RANK WENT DOWN! Yeah I haven't played with that old clan in 2 years. I'd rather just play TF2. Also it doesn't cost yearly fee's or pay per content download.

Not as much as I care about having fun in online games, which sucks when most people seem to feel the opposite way and tend to ruin the fun with all that serious business.

Only in Killzone 2. I'm a Captain grade w/e it is in Halo 3, so obviously I don't care that much for skill points (social and double exp weekend FTW). And CoD5 just sucks... 4 is better but I prefer Killzone 2 any day.

I don't care too much about ranking, I just wish H3 Matchmaking used more maps... I've got so many, and I only ever see four or five

I`ve never really cared whether Im a higher rank than the guy next to me . Im just playing to relax from a long day at work . I don`t really give a flying f*** about getting an achievement or gaining a rank . Blah who cares there just games .Its not like its real anyways or can help you advance through life more quickly.

I care more about cleaning up my personal stats than a global online ranking. In my experience, most of them don't work anyway becuase of all the stat-padders.

When you grew up playing Tetris, DDR, and Marvel VS. Capcom, you start to really care about keeping your name on that top-ten list.

But online? I don't care too much about that, unless it's on a small server. Like in Team Fortress 2, for example.

Only if they envolve bonuses like in CoD4. In terms of being noticed or respected, there are so many cheaters and "no life" players that any pride and weight is removed from rank. I have also given up on rank related achievements.

In CoD4 I used to but I finally gave up after a couple of prestiges
I still don't understand the mentality of reaching lv 10 prestige. Once was enough for me.

The first time through on a FPS, I usually don't explore all of the weapons. I prestiged on CoD5 mainly for that reason. I might do it again to get the extra custom config, but I think I'm fairly proficient with all the weapons now.

Depends, of course fun is most important. If achievements are involved or you actually unlock things than yes. Otherwise, i could care less, it is a nice way to tell how good to expect your teammates will be.
