Do you consider Britain to really be a part of Europe?

Mainland Europe? No, it is an island in it's own right.

A part of Europe in general? Yes, technically we Brits (which also includes the Irish and Scots) can claim to be 'sexy Europeans' (because we happen to be in Europe).

What other continent would we belong to?

I know what you mean. I know technically, we are part of Europe, but we're different somehow. I don't consider myself European, if you know what I mean.

The EU cases enough problems as it sloves with us in the UK. one min we got some good thing being past onto use from the EU then the next some dire law that works over there but not here being forced on us and ALL our politicall partys are scraming "vote for us we wont let the EU force laws on us"

must stop now before i get my self in a fussy and banned :p

You can't debate geography, it's in Europe. Get over it.
I think he ment the EU, not the continent. Or did you?

Britain is a part of Europe in every sense. They were just assholes the entire time. Well, the Country, not the people. The people are quite nice.

Also, why dosen't your map feature Russia? You know, the biggest country in Europe?

Geographically? Absolutely.
Politcally, well you can have fun debating that until your skull is a new home for a type of maggot.

No, stop it, Britain is just as much of a part of Europe as Japan is a part of Asia. Linguistically, culturally, ethnically, geographically there is nothing that justifies thinking of Britain as "not part of Europe".

That point of view is just an old relic from the times of the goddamned Empire. Stop it.

I personally think that Britain has many things in common with many European countries we have some major differences. The British preference for strong Government over accurate vote representation and the more combatative nature of British politics to give 2 examples. I think that Britain is like Russia in that aspect, nearly European but then quite different. However it does depend how define European.

I think people are mis-reading the question here. Yes geographically yada yada the UK is part of Europe, but that's not really what's being asked.

As a Brit, I see no shame in being European. As far as continents go, it's pretty awesome. Alot of history and progress is made in Europe. Plus - it's nice to have somewhere warm to go if the weather gets a bit crap at home. But, like a few people here I believe there's a difference between being a continental European and...well British. I object to Brussel's increased influence in domestic politics and the bureaucracy that entails. I don't appreciate the ammount it costs us British tax payers. I don't want the Euro. I don't want the EU to continue expanding at the rate it is. Cutting ourselves off completly would be foolish, but nobody seems to be able to find a middle ground acceptable to the British voter.

I'd say we're European by definition, but not in spirit.

As an island Britain will always have some degree of seperation but there is no denying that our history and culture is inseperably linked with that of the rest of europe. Some Britons actively consider themselves to be europeans, others prefer to think of britain as seperate but all things considered I'd say we have much more linking us than seperating us.

When looking at an overview of europe, whether it's a map or a history or whatever - Briton will inevitably be involved unless someone is deliberately making a point of editing it out.

I don't live there, but positively yes. Where else would it be? Europe is by far the closest continent to Britain.

Yes because Britain is on the continent of Europe and I've never understood why British people feel that they are better than the rest of Europe. It's fucking racist and ridiculous. Britain is not the leader of a massive empire anymore, we're not rulers of the world so why do we still act so superior??

I'm British btw

Britain is a part of Europe... Just because they're on an island doesn't seperate them from Europe. Japan is an island, but they're still a part of Asia. And Britain isn't really that different culturally from any other European country...
