Do you consider games kiddy or know anyone that thinks this way?

People often dismiss games as kiddy when it's aimed at a certain audience and deem it to have no real value. They never look the deeper elements such as gameplay mechanics, competitive play, and story.
Do you know anyone that thinks games have no real value due to how they are displayed and if you are one of these people can you tell us why you do it?

A lot of people think that Pokemon is very kiddy, when the endgame is actually one of the most complex RPG experiences out there.

Yeah, my fried thinks that way.

I especially hate it when he decries the LEGO games as "gay".
As Yahtzee said, there's a difference between kid friendly and kiddy, and I believe the LEGO games fall into the former.

All of my friends are really into video games, if not gaming culture itself, so no, not really. However it does give me the shits when I do encounter the occasional person who think like that.

I was thinking of making the thread center around that at first actually.

I know a lot of people who are missing out on some great games because of this.

Kirby's Epic Yarn is a great example of that.

I honestly don't see how anyone could see games as 'kiddy' in this day and age.

I would love to see the 'murder simulator' crowd and the 'games are kiddy' crowd get together. I imagine hilarity would ensue, to say the least.

I read it a lot on the internets... But I wouldn't choose to be friends with someone who has such a narrow view of something I care about.

I've been wanting to play it, but my Wii broke.
Speaking of which the Wii is viewed as being "Kiddy" as well.
I don't understand why though.

Games can do something Hollywood can't: Use interactive immersion to tell a story over 10 hours long, possibly 40+ in some games, that keeps us interested the entire time. Seriously, make a 5 hour movie and see how many people keep watching to the end.

People who find video games "kiddy" are simply too short sighted to see its value as Mass Media. It had the power to surpass even books as far as storytelling, and its immersion makes me more captivating than any TV show or motion picture.

I do.
Pokemon is a good example.
Games that trend toward the Bulletstorm/Duke Nukem 3d style also.

Juvenile in nature.

Games are Games, you like what you like. I try my best not to judge someone on what kinds of games they play.

The Wii is viewed this way because that's how Nintendo markets it. That's how they want it to be viewed.

Also, I'm with flim.geek.chic up there. Who am I to judge what someone likes or doesn't like?
