Just something of a curiosity to me... Fellow Escapists, do you or don't you drink alcohol? For either answer, for what reason?
I don't, mainly because I don't like the taste. As I said earlier, just something of a curiosity to me.

No.

My mother and step-father and alcoholics, and have really given me a jaded opinion on the substance.

No. I'm not a fan of mind altering substances, I don't react well to them. It brings out the complete asshole in me, and frankly I don't enjoy the feeling anyway. It's like I'm falling into a hole, and I don't think I can climb out again.

But I'm irish, so I have urges to drink sometimes. I placate them with chocolate milk and role-playing games.

Yes. I like its buzz. It's also a cultural thing where I live (I'm not Russian :p I'm Belgian).
I like good beer and good wine, also good whiskey. For the taste. I used to be a party animal, getting drunk as quickly as possible, but now, I'm more leaning towards déguster.

You know, in moderation, alcohol can be really good for you. And a good spirited drink can be heaven.

Yes, I do.

I prefer beer and white wine, but I'll have the occasional drink when I'm out on the town.
I really like to have a beer or three during a football match.

After all, without beer football is only sport.

Used to. And quite a lot. Like the taste and it was part of my social scene.

Couple of bad experiences (drinking at home alone, passing out and then being unable to stand...) told me that I had entirely the wrong sort of mind/psyche for intoxicants to be a good idea.

If I hadn't nipped it in the bud I suspect it would have become a real issue for me. If you don't know when to stop, don't start IMHO.

Never have and don't plan on it because it just has no appeal to me.

Not if I'm on my onesies, but if I'm round a mates for a little party or if it's a special occasion I do. I wouldn't do it for fun, though, as the taste of most is a bit mingin', and the feeling of being drunk is kinda sucky.

My father is an alcoholic. It taught me to never forget my own limits.
But it won't deny me a good drink.

I think you make an understandable and sensible choice there, but you should consider the possibility it's better to sometimes face your demons rather than try to avoid them.
Otherwise you'll never beat them, and they can be sneaky.

In copious amounts.
I keep going long stretches without it, though. Mostly because my mum and a friend of mine don't like it.
I tell myself I am trying to give it up but it is more likely I am just waiting for enough shit to roll my way so I have a valid excuse.

Mostly, I drink (drank?) because it is better than being sober.
Also, my hangovers consist of little more than a funny taste in my mouth. So I get all the good part with none of the downside.

I drink alcohol, but I don't drink, if that makes sense? I'll have a pint of Guinness if I go out somewhere for a meal, but that's about it. I don't drink it at home, or go out with the intention of getting drunk. I don't really like the taste of most alcohol, and it's so expensive.

I do like whisky in small amounts, usually single malt scotch such as Glenfiddich, but I haven't had any in a long, long time.

I used to go out drinking with friends, but over time I started to hate it. I'm a big guy, so it cost me a good £50 to go out and have a good drink, not to mention all the social shit that comes after the fun. I tried to stop a girl from getting a beating off her boyfriend one night, so she turned around and slapped me. That was the final straw.

I think in this case, avoiding them is fine. It's not like not drinking will do any harm to me.

I sense sarcasm.

You should try ciders then, they taste like carbonated juice.
