Do you ever buy games impulsively?

Whenever I buy a game usually I have researched it and made a decision to buy. I go to the store, don't browse, pick up the game and leave. But, every now and then I make an impulsive buy. For example I went to Wal-Mart and bought both Bulletstorm and Portal 2 on a whim yesterday. Sometimes I regret impulsive buys but other times I don't. What about you?

More or less gotta do the research. If its outside of the genre I like, or it is in one of the genres i like but is subpar I wont buy it. I will only play games that I believe are worthwhile. Also, I usually hold peer recommendations pretty highly when it comes to this subject.

I've done it lotsa times

mostly because I thought the covers were cool (you know, the point of the cover being selling the game)

like, say, GunMetal for PC, or Atomic Bomberman

I did when i was little, i remember seeing that trailer for Wind Waker on the TV, you know the live action one with zelda narrating? that made me scream "Mummy! buy this game for me!!!"

Seriously Nintendo are good.

Once in awhile. Bought Red Faction Guerrilla on a whim and loved the hell out of it. Did the same thing the other day with GTA4...still haven't decided if I like it or not.

Always. I rarely walk into game shop and just think, "This looks interesting, I'll buy that." I have to go home, research it, see what the gameplay's like, etc. THEN, I'll hunt around and find where I can get it cheapest.

I'll still have a look in shops though. Never know when I'll find something that looks really interesting for under a fiver (pre-owned) and I'll take the risk. Not losing much if it's rubbish!

Man, I went crazy during the Steam sales. Looking back I only really wanted 3-4 games of the ones I bought.

Only one I can think of would be paper mario: thousand year door, only because I didn't know it was out yet and saw a sign outside a gamestop at the mall.

I was very happy with the purchase, anyway.

A lot.

I was about to buy Mount & Blade for $4...then I saw it had a demo...

Then I tried the demo. Hated it. Didn't buy it.

If there wasn't a demo, I would have instantly bought it, though. No doubt!

I think you mean impulsive, not compulsive.

Anyway, I do all the time. Steam sales are awesome but have cost me a lot long term.

My latest impulse buy was Silent Bomber for the PS1 for about £2.

It is seriously one of the best games I have ever played!

Steam sales are a big draw to buy it 'cus its cheap thing, it lead me to Buy the Orange Box (was on offer and is FUCKING amazing) KoTOR (for the umpteenth time) Fallout 1-2 ans annoying tactics (dam cheap bundles giving.. oh wait i dont have to download it) Guild Wars (again i lost my old copy and now have a new PC) i could go on. there are 3 games coming i WILL buy on launch Dues Ex 3, Skyrim and ME3. so yea i kinda do it a bit, if theres an offer, if its a good old game i havn't seen in years (meaning i probably lost it).

Compulsively? No. Impulsively? Sometimes, sure.

I don't have much money to spend on games nowadays, but when I spot a really good deal on a game I'm interested in there's a decent chance I'll pick it up. Between Impulse (Go figure) Steam and GOG I've got a decent collection of games I bought on a whim for 5$ or less. Damn good games too!

You're missing out, Mount & Blade is a damned amazing little game.

I do it on half impulse I guess, I pretty much have a price in mind for any game I want to get, and I won't buy it until it reaches that price. But then when it does I buy it, even if I don't plan to play it any time soon. It's like...planned compulsive buys I guess.

Only Steam Sales, but even with those I'll still try to limit myself.

But otherwise, never. I always screen my games brutally. Partially so I can save my money, but also just so I don't waste my time on junk games, or games that I just won't fully enjoy. Same goes for movies, music, TV, and anything else you can purchase.
