Ill usually save my money for titles I know Ill enjoy (Arkham city). Although if something ive been thinking of getting goes on sale, ill grab it, luckily Deus Ex went on sale within a month of its release on steam, and its been awesome so far. On the other hand, $2 for Alpha Protocol was not worth the risk, although I wasnt thinking of getting that to begin with.

I've bought quite a few games simply because they were cheap. MAG, MGO, Lost Planet 2, Demon's Souls, Bioshock 2... come to think of it, my entire PS3 lineup is made up of discount games save for Dark Souls, and even then I used store credit I won on that so I got it for free.

and this is why I don't have steam!
I'm shocking with cheap games, if I'm in game and there's some bargains my hubby has to drag me out or I'll buy half a dozen at one time.
(then about a week later I'm back trading in the ones I've completed!)

Yes. Probably 2/3 of my game collection are games I wouldn't have bought if they weren't really cheap. That I'm a bit addicted to achievements/trophies didn't help either.

I've currently stopped buying those kinds of games and instead buy games I really want on release date(which I never did before).

I did, realised that I wasn't ever going to play some of them, then stopped. This was within the space of about 1 month back before the last summer sale. I still have some games I'm yet to start. Now I just don't buy games unless I really want them since I am content with what I have (last thing I bought was Gears 3, which I then bought DLC for since I really enjoyed it. Otherwise DoW 2 Retri DLC (Tau)) and am just buying DLC for said games if they appeal to me rather than buying new games that I know I probs wont enjoy given their price (I'm looking at you MW3/BF3).

Oh that and uni work = no time to play ....

I didn't have the opportunity to buy very many games before, so as a result I missed out on a lot of games that came out this past decade. So when steam has a sale on a game, I rack my brain, "did I at any point in time think of trying the game?" If yes, and the discount is big enough, I get it. If not, I don't. This method has allowed me to save money by not buying the games I don't want at all, and finally getting to play great games like Bioshock, Alpha Protocol and, possibly, Metro 2033(haven't started it yet). Still waiting for a Mass Effect sale...

I'm very good with self control during sales except on steam. I have so many games that were like 2 bucks that I don't think I've even played yet. Curse you steam and your convenient sales!!!

I don't buy something unless I want to try it out. I've actually skipped high-profile games during Steam sales that were like $5 because I didn't really care to play them.

Yeah. Grabbed Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 expansions for it for 5 bucks. Don't really play it much, but hey-still a good deal.

I definitely find myself tempted by games I had zero interest in at full price. Fortunately I can usually talk myself out of them. As far as I'm concerned, if I'm not interested in a game at full price, I'm skipping it entirely. Backlog is just too big to bother with stuff I'm not really interested in.

Sure, I'll try something new if it's cheap. For example, The Saboteur. $60 for that? No thank you. $9.00? I think I can give it a try.

Yeah, guilty as charged.
Bought Spore for 3 euros although I knew for a fact that the game was shit, and I have never played it past tribal stage.

Codemasters pack Grid/Dirt/Fuel for 7.50 although I have long past my racing game enthusiasm, played Dirt a bit and Grid about 1/5, never touched Fuel.

FarCry 2 for 3.50 I have yet to unpack the game.

Red Alert 2 for 15 campaign was ok, but EA murdered the fun out of the multiplayer.

Riddick escape from butcher bay (directors cut)for 9.90, didn't like the demo, but thought that it's directors cut and every singel fucking person praised the game, so I bought, played about 2 hours into it never played it again.

I plan on doing that in the Steam Christmas sale (or whatever they call it). I've done it in the summer sale, got a few cheap games I thought were awesome, turned out most of them sucked. I'm definitely gonna be more careful as to what I buy next major sale.

I bought Bad Company 2 and Just Cause 2 for $5 each during the Steam Summer Sale. Bad Company 2 did not last 6 hours, but I currently feel guilty for paying so little for Just Cause 2 and wish I could mail the other $45 to Avalanche Studios.
