Do you ever laugh/chuckle to be polite?

I do. Or just go "Ha ha... aaah...". It's polite, and it makes people smile, so why not?

When someone tells a shit joke or is trying to be funny

If they are a close friend that I don't mind telling them when their jokes are bad, I'll tell them what I think. But if they're a stranger or someone I don't know too well I'll just laugh. It's easier and a lot less awkward.

Yeah, I do pretty often actually. Just to humor someone. I'm sure I'd look like a dick if I didn't laugh at something that wasn't truly funny, because there really isn't that much anymore that makes me really laugh.

Friend or close family? No I tear them appart if it's not funny. They do the same frequently to me. We give and get as good as we can.

Stranger, distant relative, staff member? Polite smile, acknowledging they've made a joke and I accept that.

Consultant/Boss or girl I'm chatting up? Laugh like a ************.

I try to do my best at laughing at crappy jokes. Cause mostly I tell jokes and everyone laughs a lot.

All the fucking TIME. My sister often tries to show me dumb sketch videos on YouTube that she really likes, and I pretend to enjoy myself because if I don't, she passive-aggressively whines and sighs at me pointedly until I leave.

When someone makes an attempt at a JOKE... No, unless I actually find it funny. My friends know I'm a big stand-up comedy buff so I usually respond with a quip of my own. But I won't be a complete douche and tell them it wasn't funny or anything.

However, if someone tells me a STORY about something that happened to them that's supposed to have a "funny" conclusion and I DON'T find it funny... Yeah, I'll faux laugh. I went through a semi-depressed, overly cynical phase a few years ago which I know pissed off most of my friends, so now I try my best to be upbeat. It actually helps me too, I've found. So no, I have no trouble "playing along".

No, I don't laugh easily and I would worry a fake laugh would sound as shallow as it is. So I usually just nod and grin. That's sort of the same.

Yeah... I've done it a time or two.

Other times, I'll like smile so I don't have to laugh but they see I'm still "amused" in some fashion.

Depends on the joke, but sometimes? Yes. Especially in groups.

It's horribly cruel to leave someone in a group conversation in silence over a bad joke or poor timing.

It's all for the sake of others, so I see nothing wrong in it.

Hell no, pity laughter is a form of lying, and I am not a lier, plus if you fool someone into thinking that their stupid joke is funny then it gives them a reason to use that joke on someone else, so every time you give a pity luagh you are forcing another person to hear a stupid ass joke, and that's just mean.
