I used to get bored in UT online and walk around with just the impact hammer. i even got really bored one day and a buddy and i spent the whole time suiciding. we'd stay on a ledge and wait for an enemy then wave to them and jump.

in carma 2 i'd piss off the enemy racers and lead them to a minefield and just before i hit the minefield i'd hit the recover button and watch them plow into it.

on the first driver i'd get a bunch of cops after me and find a place that had a blind jump. i'd jump it and then turn around real fast (by this time i'd have other cops after me along with the main ones on the other side of the jump) and take the jump again, then watch the mobs of cops crash into each other.

in ARMA2 my favorite thing to do is get in an LAV and run over enemies (reminds me of playing CnC Renegade.) i also like getting a heavier vehicle and ramming enemy vehicles down hills.

In Fallout 3, I set up my own little house in the Minefield. No enemies were ever there due to the mines so it was safe plus this house was filled with cabinets and such to keep my stuff in. I don't know how creative that was but it sure was helpful.

Well, when I'm modding games, I really need to think outside the box to solve quite a few problems.

When I was playing through Crysis (all three times), I always took every enemy encounter seriously. I would creep away in stealth and scope out how many men there were, then I'd slowly pick them off from the back and throttle the last guy. Or, I'd plan out raids on enemy encampments; entrance strategy, exit strategy, etc. It was fun.
Did the same, until i realised that the AI in that game was really, really bad. I discovered that i could run straight in the middle of ennemy formations (in Delta difficulty, wich isnt hard at all) grab one guy with strenght mode, punch/throw him, and all his buddies would freak out and -not- shoot me for a while... while i was right there, visible in plain view.
Then i realised that i could play like a "predator", run around, blow stuff up, run in the smoke, throw one more korean in orbit, retreat and repeat.

fallout 3: I have one room in my house full of gnomes, and another full of teddy bears. I also keep "trophies" of people I kill, meaning their clothes. I put them on my desk and tables in my house.

I tend to like to play wargames as a peacenik, just to see if I can overcome the game's natural tendency toward conflict. I fight defensively and strategically when the AI starts to mix it up, taking territory only when it directly benefits my nation to do so, not because some arbitrary objective says CONQUER CONQUER RAAAAARGH.

i never think inside the box. But i'd be more inclined to thinking traditionally labeled outside the box if i'm assured there is thinking inside it.

Solid Snake: Hmmm... Think outside the box. Okay...sure!

*Snake steps out of the box, raises a force-10 alarm, and gets shot by 12 guards who were RIGHT THERE*

MISSION FAILED!

Dun dun da dun-dun, da-da dun dun DUN!
Haha! I lol'd
OT: I don't usually make my own little stories, the closest thing I did was decorate my house in Fallout 3 with stolen stuff all arranged properly with a table laid with weapons and a bath tub of money

Driving the wrong way around the track in racing games is fun.

In MMOs I like to go exploring with low level characters. I sometimes enjoy that more than leveling up and doing quests or whatever.

Unfortunately, I could never get that into Oblivion. Maybe it's just me, but the game just didn't provide that much immersion.
I suggest Morrowind in that case. Older, but about 50 times as immersive.
I loved Morrowind! If Oblivion had even close to that level of immersion in addition to it's prettier graphics, it would be the best RPG of all time.
Hells yeah, Morrowind was awesome. I might just go climb some hills then go build a fortress out of mushrooms now.

I don't know what this says about my mental stability, but whenever I get bored of a game's main story I just turn the main character suicidal.
Like throwing Altair off that huge cathedral in AC1. =)

In Dragon Age I stubbornly refused to lose a fight even though it was set up to be "unwinnable". The Boss 2-3 shot any party member, another half dozen archers spammed AoE stuns, several goons run in to tie you up and there's even a mage to make it even harder. Needless to say, I won. All it took was a Scooby Do-style chase through the castle to split up the enemies, spam healing to survive the boss and then an extensive clean up of the goons. The thing is, I didn't know I wasn't supposed to win it and just assumed it was poorly balanced. Little did I know I missed an entire section of the game by not losing the fight...
