Do you feel like your posts are insignificant?

I only recently started using the forums on this site (as you can see, I have something like 7 messages posted). I enjoy reading the threads, but I often don't post in them because a lot of threads already have hundreds of replies, and really who's gonna read or care about mine?

Also, typing that just made me wonder who's gonna read or care about this thread, heh.

Nope. My post is the most significant post in the thread. Anyone that says otherwise is maybe a liar and maybe an alcoholic.

Depends how you define significant. Sometimes I will read threads and read a post that changes how I see things but I won't post in the thread. It all depends on what you want to get from posting.

Escapist is one of the most generic forums on the net. Of course it doesn't matter because within a few weeks the same ridiculous threads will be repeated (would you do X if Y happened, what would you do in X situation, you have X amount of time left choose Y from this list, what is your favourite X etc etc.)

Yes, this forum is far too big for personalities.

I've been browsing the forums commenting on the odd thread here and there for over a year now and I don't recognise anyone ever. Every thread is full of a whole load of people I've never seen before.

I generally don't comment on threads that are on more than about 2 pages when I first get to them.

That would be ironic, wouldn't it? Honestly, sometimes I wish my posts were insignificant to avoid the conflict and cynicism that is pretty much inevitable with the escapist and the internet in general.

And, just like everywhere else, people argue over stuff that doesn't matter--totally ignoring valid arguments for the sake of expressing their own beliefs. Those are threads that I tend to stay away from.

I post anyway, and I know that people do read it because I usually receive a quoted message full of abuse because ive managed to offend someone.

Like some people have said, I only bother posting if it's still on the first or maybe second page. And I don't post in the would you do X if Y happened, what would you do in X situation, you have X amount of time left choose Y from this list, what is your favourite X etc etc topics that have hundreds of posts.

Of course my posts are insignificant. Threads are a little more, but still. near 6000 posts and maybe 20 of them have had more than 10 direct replies.
It's always a nice feeling when you see that message :)

You pretty much hit the nail on the head here, as have several others. Mainly because we are dealing with such large numbers but it's quite nice to remember that there is usually someone sitting behind the keyboard typing every single post. Like a globe of lights representing each individual consciousness.

That gives me goosebumps ever so slightly.

The main reason I feel mine are insignificant is because what I want to say has already been said twice. Also, what I've usually got to say is not really going to change an opinion (but at least it doesn't start flame wars).

Wrong. I go on paradox interactive forums and since the amount of posters is around 50 (for OT) then you get to know most of the people there

This. Good lord this.

Generally the only way of knowing that your post actually has any impact is the torrent of abuse that you get through the quoted messages.

And for the sake of completeness, wooty, feel abused for damaging my now offended nature (Yeah, I can't really be arsey on command...)

I tend to only post in the smaller threads because of that, yeah.

But randoms talking on the net rarely achieve anything dramatic anyway.

I rarely post. I don't take any issue with the Escapist as a forum, I just find forums in general are full of people who aren't listening but just waiting for their turn to speak.

You get a message when someone replies to your post? I've never had one of those yet.
Someone quote me? :D *puppy eyes*

As significant as a post on a games forum can be.

Whether this is or isn't saying much is up to you.
